NWA Super Bee
Active Member
Just wanted to drop a quick hello! I’ve been hanging out around these forums for a long time. Grew up around old Mopars, my grandpa drag raced for over 50 years in a 56 Ford Fairlane sedan that had a “powered by mopar” sticker in the window (500 stroker car).
I helped him work on numerous cars during my childhood, but the two cars that never left the stable was a 71 Superbee and a 72 Barracuda.
Last year my grandpa passed away, and because there was no will everything was set to go to auction. I convinced my uncle who was over the estate to let me purchase the cars, so I am the proud owner of both!
I’ve been wrenching on them for a little over a month, and after sitting for over 10 years both cars have made their maiden voyage and are very close to be road worthy.
A little info on both cars -
The superbee has the correct paint color and interior, but has poor body work. It has an R/T hood on the car because my grandpa couldn’t find a superbee hood back when he drove this all the time. It also has a mid level 400 under the hood. Runs pretty strong but needs a rebuild in the future. Car came with a 340 but that’s long gone unfortunately.
The Barracuda is a gold interior and exterior optioned car GY8 code I believe. It was repainted years ago. My grandfather found the car sitting in a field in central Arkansas, and when he brought it home it was a pile of rust. He did the body and paint work himself, and it’s now bright yellow and has some quarter panel rust issues. The car has matching numbers drivetrain (318 paired to a 727) and came with the upgraded brake and suspension package and still has the painted red suspension, front disc calipers, and rear red drums. I am still trying to verify if my grandfather painted these or if they are from the factory that way. The components inside of the drums were also red, so I am starting to believe this was an option.
Thanks for having me around and I look forward to showing you the progress on both cars.
