Did the 318 engine have both 904 and 727 transmissions behind it in 1969?

Just wondering which trans I have. I am thinking it is the 904 in the 440 model with 4 doors and the 318 engine. Where can I look on the trans to verify what I have???

I had a 1969 satellite with a 318 and trailer towing package with 11” brakes, sway bar and 3.23 sure grip. Still had the 904.

https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/your-guide-to-the-727-904-transmission.17287/ Go to this link for the stamped number locations. Post them here or PM for a free decode. This is the B3 coronet, awesome.

Taxicabs, police cars; that I know of.

You have a 904. A 727 will not mate to a 318 from what I understand. The 904 pan is shaped like the bottom one in the picture. On driver side of the transmission, down by the linkage. It will have A-904 in huge letters. You can’t miss it and confuse one for the other if you’re looking at the tranny from down under. The 904 was considered a light duty tranny. That’s why all the 318 automatic models received 904 transmissions. Smaller engine, lighter duty tranny.

I don't know about the cars, but Power Wagons got the 727 with the small block.

Is this the difference in D32 and D34 on the fender tag?

Pickups also could come with 727's behind the teen and so did some of the bigger cars. Just depended on the option package it had.

D31 is a 904 in 1969-1971. D32 is a 727. Look on the fender tag of the blue Coronet.

Every 1966 and 1967 B-body with a 318 came with a 727 as standard equipment. The same years the 273 had a 904.

As stated above pickups and Vans had 318 with a 727 for years. Chrysler made a 727 for a slant 6 engine. I have seen them and they are scarce, unsure of what years made.

There are no factory 904 trans with a BB bellhousing on it

Bellhousings bolt patterns are different from slant 6 to SB and BB

Many misc ramblings here, thanks for reading.

Ok, I got pictures. According to what you all have told me, this is a 904. Anyone disagree? Bye the way, thank you all for the information you have provided!

I went to visit my Coronet this last weekend. It is sitting in a storage unit until May 4th when it will be trailered to the body/paint shop. I checked the fender tag while I was there and it says D31. Between that and the shape of the pan, we have identified this as the 904 transmission which is correct for this car. I have learned a lot from you all on this thread (and others as well). Just wanted to say thanks again!!!

Both small block 904 and 727 trans will fit a 318...watch your driveshaft lengths, they are different. Big block 727 only work with big blocks, but both versions of 727 can use the same driveshaft.
