Spring Fling Van Nuys, Ca. April 13-14, 2019

Someone is going to have to go open headers

...AND do burnouts!

It’s 415 am on track day. Get up, go to the track and TAKE PICTURES!

Track day at Willow Springs. I read about that. Is that open to amateurs?

On the way south today, I saw a guy heading NORTH that regularly posts on the Moparts "Cornering" forum. Flat black primered looking 70 Barracuda with wide tires, he goes by the screen name Rylis Pro. I'm guessing that he had finished the day at the Willow Springs track and was heading home.
I got to the hotel around 4:00, Mick with the FK5 70 Road Runner rolled in a few minutes after. HOW does a guy drive 400 miles and end up with an engine bay that looks that clean ??
Sandy and the other Canadians were there as always. We all had dinner at a place up the road.
Dennis is absent for reasons that I'll let him explain. (For the record, I don't think he is the father)
Darius skipped this year too. Scott Smith rolled in after dark.

With all of the rain that we have had, the hills here are GREEN. During the drought years, these hills were usually brown already.

Here is a quick shot of some of the early arrivals:

A few cars that I saw in the Air Tel parking lot:

I like my Charger but if I were to buy another B body to keep, I'd sure like to have one of THESE Super Bee cars!

Yes, Dennis....That is your old transmission in the box.

Cool pics. We should be in to the Airtell early this afternoon. It is easier to ID people by their cars. This is Mikes 71 Challenger RT. I will be hobbling around it looking for my chair all week end.

We got in around 7:30. We just took all day drive rather than rushing things. Stopped in the desert where theres a cool hot rod shop. They mainly do flathead but the old boy raced model As at Bonneville back in the day. Met up with our Canadian brother, Kern, Scott rolled in and Mick

The Malibu cruise got messed up, at least for me. The fires of months ago resulted in a few changes to the route. I figured to just follow others and I didn't take a copy of the directions. Jamie didn't lead the cruise as he usually does and cars ahead got too far away to follow. Usually, the cars don't get so far apart because the speeds are kept reasonable enough to allow the people at the back of the pack to catch up. The crowd I followed started turning different ways at defferent intersections until it was just me and a couple on a 70 Black Challenger convertible. He was as lost as I was. I drove ahead to the "Reel Inn" as has been the destination for the last 8 times that I have been on this cruise. I had only one phone contact to anyone on the cruise and he wasn't answering the phone.
I don't even like seafood! I only go to the "Reel Inn" to hang out with the car guys!
The fault lies mostly with me as I should have taken a copy of the directions, still....it has been essentially the exact same route for many years. There were other roads to take to get to the coast and the restaurant where the cruise usually ends.

Even the itinerary is a bit vague: No mention of a change of restaurant.

---We start our show with our Spring Fling Malibu Cruise---
Driving Cruise from Woodley Park to Malibu for lunch; 50+ cars. Don't miss it!!
9:30 am meet at Woodley Park
10:00 am Leave Woodley Park
Stop at the Famous Rock Store on Mulholland Drive
Cruise down Pacific Coast Highway
1:00 pm Lunch in Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway
Return to Woodley Park, Van Nuys

As I was pulling back into the hotel, I got a call that the group was at a different restaurant from before and that a place had been saved for me. I wish that I got that call earlier!
The only other time I got lost was on the very first time I went on this cruise.....It was the only other time that I just followed someone.
I see a clear pattern here...

We walked down to Beeps on Sherman & Woodley. Pretty good burger & fries.

Can you believe there is a Corrolla under all that. It was at the Food For Less on the other side of the airport.

Beeps is good, and within walking distance. The Taco truck you walk by on the way is awesome too. Watch out for the jalapenos. Lethal. Also, there is a Denny’s nearby the AirTel. Not walking distance. Turn right leaving the hotel, under the runway then on the right about three blocks. Beats paying $70 for breakfast.

I expect pictures from Bobs big boy Burbank tonight. Or northridge.

Between my Pop's and EFI swap, the car is not making it to Spring Fling.. Why did I think this was going to be easy...
