Losing parts....am I the only one!!?

This part won't fit in any pockets I have! lol

Well, this is a part that I sold and was going to pack it up to ship first thing in the morning. Dug it out, cleaned it a bit and made sure it was working like it was supposed to on Friday and.....it's gone! :(
I sold a tach for $50.Looked for it for hours without any luck.Had to tell the buyer,,,,,I can't find it:mad:
It's not the $50,but the fustration of the happening for YEARS!!:BangHead:
Well, the other day it turned up:realcrazy::realcrazy:.Will be mailing it out this week:drinks:

My son like to re-organize the barn each winter.
I had kept certain tools, parts supplies in the same general area for years.
I can't find anything now...

:)Somehow you always find it in the last place ya' look. Maybe you should just start lookin' there! :D

There's times when I've purposely put stuff where I won't loose it and still forget what the hell I've done with it.

I generally do this with tools. I'll put them in a spot that will be "obvious" to me next time I need them. When I go to use them, can't find them so end up buying another one. I'll then go put that in a place that will be "obvious" to me next time I need it and find the other one.

We had this old guy "Ted" that would come to the shop and hang out. His thing was while you were working on something he'd come by your cart and pickup what ever, parts or tools, look at it, and then set it down someplace else while walking away.He didn't do it intentionally, just was lost in his thoughts.Drove us all crazy.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS !

As well as joining everyone who commented above (I go through all the same agony):

Purchased a small block air cleaner and service manual online from the same source. The manual was packed inside the air cleaner by the seller. Did not open the box for months. Could not find the manual for a long time, had to contact the seller who guided me to the right location!

It happens to me all the time. Even after I finally find it I keep looking just so it's not in the last place that I looked.

And I found it this morning!! I remember rinsing it off in my vat out back and I hung it up on a metal rack but forgot where I put it after taking it out of the vat. I had walked right by it several times as it's pretty much along the pathway to my 'batroom' Some times I wonder.....probably took it out and hung it up (below eye level of course) on my way to use the battyroom then put it out of mind which brings up another point. Not sure there is a mind up there but sure am glad to find it! :elmer:

I do ok keeping track of tools, worse with parts and bolts, but holy hell earbuds and I have a love/hate thing going on. I use them for most phone calls on my mobile as my hands are usually full or doing other stuff. I replace at least 3-6 sets a year.

I worked on a car at a bodyshop back in the early seventies, and lost a double opened end wrench.
Same car came in two years later. Found the wrench next to the battery right where I left it! WTF!
So, being old isn't the ONLY reason.

The good news is it's not just us hobbyists. Took my wife's car in for service one time and got a free screwdriver and 8mm wrench. ;)

What pisses me off is that I'll run some laps in the shop looking for that specific 1/2 inch box end, waste a ton of time looking for it, move on to something else then find the ******* 1/2 inch box end in my hip pocket when I strip down for a shower at the end of the day.

All kidding aside. I had/have chronic Lyme's Disease. It did me in as far as my short term memory. I can walk somewhere to do or get something and with-in a minute forget why I went there or what I needed to do. I have to stop and really think and sometimes I still can't remember… When working with others it's embarrassing...

I have done that for years and no known disease to blame it on.

I'm so good at putting stuff in a safe place, I forget that I have it...then order it again.
I knew I had a brand new set of 'J' bolts when I was putting in a new gas tank. Then I found a second set. And a third set....
