Hopefully a simple answer. How many exhaust mounting holes go into the water jacket on a 906 head? Just the end holes, or does it vary?

All 6 of them, it does not vary. 3/8 x 18

“Well my uncles sister in laws newport drivers side head had 4 and a half that went into the water jacket”. NO it didn’t

The reason I ask is: my 906s are on engines at the moment, but I checked my 286 heads, and only the two end holes go into the jacket. I had leaks past the end holes on my project, wondering if I have to seal all of them?

I had thought it was only the 2 end bolts that went into the water jacket. I have studs in my end holes and bolts in the rest. I don't remember losing any coolant last time I changed out gaskets.

BB Mopar: ALL go to water
SB Mopar: ONLY the end holes go to water

This is why all water holes have studs

Not true. Both my sets of 286 heads have only the end holes going to water. That's why I asked specifically about 906.
Maybe it's just a max wedge thing.

I just finished looking at a number of Max Wedge heads on line, and ALL holes go to water. Yours might be filled with corrosion and look like the holes are blind. Any other Max Wedge guys want to chime in...

I use to think only the end holes needed sealed. Then on a set of 452 heads, I had the second one back on the right head leaking after break in.

I think a lot if it has to do with the factory machine work and castings. Just fn seal them all. It's going to help having something on the threads the next time someone has to remove them.

Strange that out of 24 exhaust flange holes, 16 are filled with corrosion, and all eight end holes are not?
Update: problem handled, optimum grey thread sealer on all the bolts ( except one), no leaks.

go buy allen headed plugs put thread locker on them and run them in to the bottom of the bolt whole. yhis should take care of any leaking past the threads on your exhaust ports.
