Hi guys, first time posting here, i'm from London, England, I just bought a 70 Satellite and I want to replace the wheels as I don't like them and I think they look too modern for the car as I prefer the old school drag racing look with more of a high profile fatter tyre and higher rear end etc, the below link is the wheels I want

15 x 8 or 15 x 10 on the rear ?

15 x 7 on the front.

https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/are-ar615865/overview/

It's which tyres to buy is what is bothering me, the trouble i'm having is the car has electric exhaust cutouts that sit quite low so I need to keep the car the same height at least if going with 15's so i'm thinking maybe a 70 profile tyre on the rear ? Would they fit ?

255/70/15 or 265/70/15 or even 285/70/15 ?

I assume that would make the car sit a lot higher at the rear ? (Which I want )

On the fronts would a 245/60/15 fit ok or even 255/60/15 ? As I said any smaller than that the car will sit lower which will cause problems with the cutouts.

Current wheel/tyre setup is......

Rear --- 18 x 9.5 with 265/40/18's

Front --- 18 x 8 or 9(will have to check) with 235/45/18's

My 70 Satellite below , thanks for any help.

I did test fit some 14’s I had spare from a Mustang but they were stupidly too small and made the car sit way too low

They were 14 x 7's all round

Rear ----- 245/60/14

Front ---- 215/60/14

Mate, welcome aboard, love the car. The rear's might be ok with the 14" wheels and 245/60, but the fronts with 14" wheels need a 215/70 to get to a similar overall diameter. I made that mistake (225/60 on the front) and mine looked silly too. If you're buying new 15" wheels it won't matter anyway, but just use an online tyre diameter calculator to get to a similar overall diameter to what you have now with the bigger wheels. I think the 70's have more room in the rear wheelwells so you might get a 265 or more under there.

love the car but hate those wheels, sorry. Im old school 235/60/15 on front 275/60/15 on back or police rims and caps

Hello There in England :) Congrats on a lovely Satellite !
I have a 1970 Coronet, originally with 14" Wheels but for me too small so I opted for period correct Rallye 15"x7" in front and 15"X8" in the rear. Wanting a fatter tire to fill the rear wheel well i went with 275/60/15 and then chose 225/70/15 in front, thus the tires have the same diameter. Rims in rear have 4,5" backspacing. I added a Hotchkis tubular "racing" sway bar in the front to stiffen her up and had the rear springs redone to HD standard going to a specialst telling him I wanted the car to take a full load of passengers plus a full trunk and still have it handle well. Im extremely happy with the setup, steering is great and grip is superb with the Cooper Cobra GT tires. And I think it looks good too. Here are included pictures.
Oh yes and I was missing the center caps but I have them now in Argent (dark gun metal?) Still kinda like the "hot rod" looks without the center caps tho.

Thanks for the replies, Davek your pic on the left with the slightly jacked up look at the rear, what combo was that ?

Also if going with 275/60/15, would 15 x 10's fit ok or is best to go with 15 x 8 ?

Any pics of 70 profile tyres on the rear ? Thanks

Cop rims 7 inch 3.5 bs I think they are 255/70/15s.My cragers are 7 inch wide 4 inch bs front and 8 inch wide 4.5 bs on back

If you decide on 275/60/15 you can have Max rim width of 9", they work very well with 8" (mine are 8" and 4,5 Backspace no rubbing anywhere)

A note on 70 Profile : Above 225/70/15, remember your tire diameter will go up and the sidewall is going to be TALL. Might look cool going straight but as soon as you decide to take a corner that tire can "fold" or slip... I suppose thats ok as long as you dont expect cornering performance. :) Just my 2£'a worth:steering:

Think i'm going to go 15's

Pretty sure on the rear....

15 x 8 with 275/60/15 with 3.75" backspace

15 x 7 front with 3.75" backspace but i'm a bit unsure on the tyres, I need a fairly tall tyre because I can't go less than my current ones which are 26.3" tall because any lower the cutouts will hit on speed bumps etc

So i'm thinking either 225/70/15 or 245/60/15

Does these sizes fit ok on a 15 x 7 at the front ?

Can't go 235/60/15 because these are a shorter tyre than my current fronts

Thanks

why not 235 on front,60 is the hight.

Because that is a shorter tyre than my current fronts and I can’t afford the car to go any lower because the cut outs will hit on bumps , I need a tyre as tall as the ones currently on there or taller

You saked for advice, so here it is, free of charge, worth what you pay.
I dont think you will be happy with the3 3/4 backspace, it puts the wheel out too close to the fender to put large tires on.
The outlaw 61 is a one piece copy of a two piece centerline autodrag. Centerline offered two different backspaces for 8x15 autodrags, 3 1/2 and 4 7/8. 3 1/2s fit almost nothing, unless you wanted the rear jacked way up and the tires sticking out of the fender.
I have a 62 savoy and a 69 roadrunner, and anything i can stuff under the 62, falls on the runner. Im using 10 1/2 slicks on 4 7/8 bs autodrags, (very tight on 62, need 1/4 and 3/16 spacers,) 10" slicks on 8x16 torque thrusts with 4 3/4 bs, better fit on both.
I also use 255x70-15 radial ta on 8x15 steel ramcharger wheels on the 62, a 8 1/2 tire, because i couldn't go bigger, the 4"bs has the tire atleast an inch and a half from the spring but only a 1/2 " from the fender. It does fit better on the runner.
I like nice tall front tires too, i use a 235x70-15 on a six inch rim on both, factory mopar steelie. Latest puchase is a 235×75-15 for the front of the 62, on a seven inch rim, to match the 10"x16 torque thrusts.

Lot of opinions on fitment here. I just ordered 2, 8"magnum 500 repo wheels for the rear. They have a custom back spacing of 4.25". 10" wheels won't work either, because the tire would rub on the outer side of the fenderwall wheels on the car now we're damaged a little by an idiot mounting the tires. One wheel wobbles. Long story. Anyway, the BFG 295 50 15 rubbed a little on the inner fenderwall with the standard 4.5" back spacing and I also just installed 4 wheel discs on the car. The rear calipers wouldn't clear, so I machined off about a 1/4". An 8" wheel with 4.25 back spacing is perfect.
