On my 67 Hemi GTX, how loud should the lifters be? More noise right now than my solid lifter LS6 Chevelle? I assume the Hemi would be hydraulic, but not a lot on Google on the subject.

I have the opposite as my rebuild has solid lifters with the solid lifter clatter; if they aren't, you shouldn't be hearing much lifter noise.

Challenger340 is correct. Hemi's are constantly requiring lifter adjustments...nature of the solid lifter beast. One of the reasons the 440's outsold the elephant (besides the extra $$$) 440's required waayyy less lovin than the 426. Congrats on your GTX

If your rockers are striking the center of valve stem and your using a good adjuster tool the and still have lots of excess noise. Then do you know what restrictor orfice if any you have in the block leading to the rocker stands? Next item are your shaft oilier slots facing down to feed the belly of the lifter? Once you check this are your side tension springs loaded well against the sides of rocker arms?? Also what do you have in the way of shims on the side loading on the exhaust rockers?? Should have copper then steel. The exhaust rockers are more likely to have needs of a little more adjustment needs..

I don't like the idea of pulling the valve covers on a restored car, but I promised the old lady who consigned it that I was going to beat on it. It's a 38k mile restored car. But there was a little oil in the plug tubes. I have a tool my dad made to pull them out with pulling the valve covers but I would guess they haven't been adjusted in awhile. Figured out how to free up 200 horsepower. Only mod was a Pertronix conversion but they left the resistor and 1.5 ohm coil. Did a voltage test with my pinky. Threw a new coil and the will now smoke those sketchy Coker repop bias ply tires.

I am sure the adjustment is done hot, but what are the specs?

This is a chart to follow when adjusting valves.

Every hemi has oil in plug tubes unless you fitted the heads with aluminum o ringed inserts. You don't need to remove valve covers to pull tubes. Hemi's pool oil around exhaust sided all the time. Let a little oil get past the guides is ok on street motor. Get the Viton valve seals instead of Teflon. They are green. Check your adjusters make sure they have tight thread contact with rocker arm threads. If not get a good set from isky. Hemis are not for everyone!
