Just purchased Borgeson part # 800126 power steering kit for my 67 r/t and I have two questions about it
1 did they change design the reason I ask is all of the ones I've seen are converted boxes with mounted tabs welding on, this one is cast with tabs just like original mopar box.Have they changed them or am I looking at older pictures. Even in there catalog they show welded on tabs, the date on the carton in came in is april 9 2019.
2 It went in like a dream set flat on all 3 mounted tabs ,nothing hits the k frame-- BUT the steering input shaft that would go to steering column is pointed outward about 10 degrees.
How much misalignment will the coupler handle ? Do I have to shim box and get the alignment dead on.
My old manual box lined up great and this new one sets nice and flat on the same K frame so I would hate to have to fart around with the shimming
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated Thank you Bill

Yes, they did change the design of the box. There is a thread about it on moparts: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthread...454/re-borgeson-steering-box.html#Post2646454

The welded tabs made it illegal to use the box in some countries (e.g. NZ issued a warning about the Borgeson steering box) as welding steel to cast iron is quite tricky.

The guy over at moparts who bought the box has the same issue with the steering angle. Do you have some pictures? It was claimed that the angle is necessary because the Borgeson box is smaller than Mopar box (true for the PS box but not for the manual box imo).

I have not seen the newest ones without the tab welded on. Not sure of why the angle is still persisting but mine is one of the older ones with the welded tab. Maybe they think the angle is needed to clear headers or something. Mine probably would have worked fine with the angle but I shimmed the tab out a quarter inch to line up properly with the column. I spoke with John at Borgeson about the issue at the time and he recommended the shim. I have driven my Charger about 5 K miles with no issues. I have checked it a couple times to be sure it is tight and have to say it was well worth the upgrade.

Got pictures of box before and after installing it , will have son post when he gets home from work, there on his phone.
As far as shimming it I would have to put shim on the out board tab to get it perfectly but then the in board tabs would not set flat on the K frame and we all know cast iron does not like to bend witch it might want to do when I tighten the two in board bolts.Maybe. I am overthinking all this.I got to find out how much misalignment the Bergman coupler can be.
I got to go to sleep and wake up with a fresh mind , been up for 23 hours ,my brain is fried .

Just talked to tect at Borgeson about shimming and he said to shim outboard hole to line up input shaft, I told him that the in board tabs would not set flat on k frame he said they don't have to and not to worry about it.
Sounds spookey to me ---Ma mopar made them set flat for a reason and borgeson said they don't have to --anyone else got input on this please give me your thoughts
Thank you
Now I am going to bed , my brain is toasted

when you shimmed one side did the other tabs set flat on the k member,I would think they should, but if it worked for you I will give it a try

I guess I didn't pay particular attention to the back tabs sitting flat. I just put the 1/4" thick washer on the front tab and tightened all three bolts up. Nothing has moved since and all three bolts have stayed tight. I think I torqued them to 55 lbs. I would have to check the specs to be sure. I installed my Borgi in 2015 when I built my car. I re-torqued them again the following year and have not looked at them since. Getting ready to bring my car out of hibernation soon. Maybe I will give it a closer look but I expect it to be fine.

I bought one last year and it was as fast, no welded tabs. Haven't ties it to the column yet so can't speak to the alignment. .
