Can anyone confirm if the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake on a 440 will clear the bulge hood on my 69’ Roadrunner? I also plan to pull the 650 Edelbrock thunder carb off the 383 I’m replacing to use on the 440.

I’m ready to order a new intake. I don’t want to use the stock 78’ Mopar 440 intake that came with the engine. So....is it gonna be the Edelbrock Performer or Edelbrock Performer RPM. Again this is a street cruiser. I’ve never made a pass at a dragstip although I would love to at least once.

Or is there another option I’m unaware of. I don’t want to modify my hood.

Weiand Action Plus is right in between those two.

I can’t confirm anything with an RB block, but a low deck with the RPM and a Holley carb, with a 1/2” spacer, and topping it off with a Moroso drop base air filter has about 3/8” clearance from the wing nut to the hood on a 68 Satellite.

I’d say on an RB, it’s gotta be pretty close.

How about the Weiand Action Plus?

I put the Weiand on a 440 that went into a 69 GTX about 25-30 years ago.
No fit problems at that time.

Weiand 8009......
Looks like it’s no longer available.

I ran the std performer on one of my mild 440’s years ago...... overall, I was pretty happy with it.
If you’re combo is pretty mild, and you’re intent on buying a “new” manifold...... that’s a decent option.

Depending on where you’re at in the mild to wild range, the Holley SD is a decent low profile intake....... but isn’t really ideal for motors leaning more towards the “mild” side of things.

Used, there are several choices
-CH4B
-original Torker(the non-egr, non-spread bore version)
-Weiand 8009
-stock square pattern RB intake from 67-71

I am using the Edelbrock Performer RPM on a 1968 Road Runner 383. It's close, but the clearance is just right. Just make sure you use a drop-base air cleaner and your wing nut stud is trimmed to clear the hood, and you should be fine.

And then there’s this thing on ebag right now....... something ancient from Weiand....... before my time.

If it was cheap, I’d buy it just to dyno it on something down the road.

There’s a few original Torkers and CH4B’s on there right now.

What works with 383 may not work with a 440

Yeah that's true. The 383 and 440 are very similar but yes, the 440 is a little bit taller. I'd say a low-profile air cleaner with the drop base should do the trick though.

The performer is no taller than an original intake. Im not sure about the RPM.

The plain jane 383 Performer is about 0.75" taller than a stock low deck b block intake.

Its about 0.75" taller actually.

If this is the case (rpm being taller) then the whole overall gain is going to 1.5” as the RB is 3/4”taller than B.

I’ve heard and seen that the performer works paying attention to the air cleaner and using a drop base

Wow. No shortage of mis-information on intake heights. The 383 Performer is 3/8" taller than stock and is a nice step up in performance over stock. Of course, the OP has a 440 so that's all irrelevant. The 440 Performer is a completely different design than the 383 Performer. It too is taller than stock, but won't have access to the numbers until Monday.

The main thing to keep in mind from that old post is that those tests were done on what was essentially a stock 383.
More cubes and a more “modified” package from stock would show bigger gains from the better manifolds.

I have a rpm Manifold on a 69 RR with a 440. I had to use a drop base air cleaner to clear. It works but I am not sure how much air flow I am losing.

My 69 GTX with 440, performer rpm intake, and drop base 2" air cleaner with an eddy 750 carb. About 1/4" clearance to hood.

That thing is interesting. I’ve never seen one in all my years of being in this hobby. You’d better hit “make offer”!!

I ran a RPM & holley on my 69 with the airgrabber and it cleared.
