I know Carlisle is coming up in about 2 or 3 months. I figured i'd create a tread to get everyone who goes "hyped and excited" in a way. If you've been to Carlisle, I'd like to know how long you've been going for, and what you like/dislike about it? In my opinion, I really like seeing the cars I haven't seen before and hanging out with friends. I dislike the heat, and the burnout contest. It doesn't matter, it's a good time no matter how you look at it. I'd like to hear from you, post comments, opinions etc.

They have raise the prices on everything they’re running around making sure everybody has a tax number. It’s all about the money not about the hobby. I just came back from spring Carlisle I bought a $15 bottle of aluminum polish and I spent $80 that was turnpike tolls a breakfast lunch and dinner inside parking fee and about seven 3 dollar waters !!!!

Been there a few times. Meet up w some great people. Likes checking out the cars, the dyno pulls. The heat can be a killer. And some guys trying to sell the same junk for years. Some of the stuff is too common or just junk, get rid of it

Carlisle may be getting a bit piggish but it exists. You know the tax ID is the state, still not sure why they think getting a cut of some 50 year old part is right. Or why an individual selling junk is something they need to worry about.

I’m in my mid 40’s and I’ve been going to Carlisle since I was probably 10. Spring, Fall, Mopar, GM, Trucks, you name it. I’m less than an hour away and that made me take it for granted until I started going other places and realized how awesome Carlisle is. Things change and cost go up but if they sold out to build condos we would all be mad.

The only thing that bugged me is when they started asking for next years money a week after the show. Holding my money for an entire year just to keep my spot isn’t cool IMO. That’s greed.

I think they will need to dump the costs on spaces to get the selling crowd back for Spring and Fall. Not sure if the weather kept people away this weekend but lots of empty spaces.

haven't missed a year in the past 20
I'm just burnt out on it.
the past few years I lean towards not going
but then I will come up with a reason to go like picking up a large part
or needing something that is easier or cheaper to get there.
still on the fence this year..

It's a long drive from Iowa.
Lol

Always wanted to go but never was able to get off from work. Low man on totem pole with seniority. A good 100 mile trip for me. Still hoping to attend some day. Hell, I can't even attend a show in my home town! What ever you do, never take a job working rotating shifts!

Heat, humidity, rain, mud, insects, being a billy goat on hillside to forage for parts. Or maybe it’s changed since I’ve been there. Likes: good people and Mopars.

Pretty much sums it up for me also.
I haven't been in years now. Don't see the need for the trip.

It should be a week long event, there is no possible way to see it all in 3 days. I've been going since 1991.

Pros:

  • The largest all Mopar swap meet -bar none
  • The largest all Mopar car show - bar none
  • The largest Mopar car corral - bar none
  • Speciality buildings/exhibits/personalities/manufacturers
Cons:
  • It's too short, did I say that yet? You really need to choose what you want to see, you can literally spend all 3 days just in the swap meet.
  • There is no sponsored cruise or drag racing. 1/8th mile track is not that far away, but not well attended.
  • It's July in Carlisle, yeah it's hot.

I have never been to the mopar show at Carlisle. I used to be a participant/vendor at the annual Porsche Swap Meet in nearby Hershey for a number of years. The past 5 or 6 years I have not even gone, and really haven't missed it. It was exciting to look forward too, but I tired of going through all the machinations of preparation. I would typically sell enough to cover my expenses, not much more. I did much better selling on ebay.
These kinds of shows are self sustaining. More so nowadays the state/town get more involved due to limited budgets. More police presence to control the massive traffic, public safety is going to cost someone. These guys arent going to work it from the goodness of their hearts. This is where I see the state/town asking for taxes. Lets face it...the event promoter isnt free either. If they werent making money, there would be no show. Now, lets brush on vendors space/stalls. Before the show at Hershey was over, many of the "choice" spaces were already reserved with full payment. If you didnt care where you set up your stuff, you could put it off 6 to 8 months. After that you ran the risk of not getting a spot.
From what I see from this post is that there have been some minor changes. I do not see where these harm the show, but help sustain it. These shows are free enterprise at its best. You decide the price for your goods. You can haggle if you wish, or hold out for your asking price.
None of us likes change to our established traditions, but if it is the choice between change or no more show...which way would you vote ?

I would love to do Carlisle someday, and I will !

P.S. A bottle of water is around 3 bucks at any event. Just be glad it isnt you who has to schlep all that water and ice. Just the thought of it makes my back hurt.

I vend there and am kind of married to my booth the last 5 years. The people are super, the heat and humidity sucks!

I've been going for Carlisle for over 30 years. Used to wake up and get there at the crack when the spring and fall shows were massive in the mid-late 80's. Then the Chrysler show came along in '91, made it much easier for a Mopar guy to find parts.

It's well organized, clean, and friendly. Highlight of summer.

I had a swap space for 9 years, stopped when the $100.- parts cars got scarce. Having a few friends along so everyone gets turns away from the space makes it easy.

Been going and selling parts for the past 16 years.
Only show I go to. Rain, heat and humidity. Wouldn't be Carlisle without it.

Distance [not their issue] road tolls, sauna weather, and crazy hill....all make me not want to return. I had fun the one time I went...but remember more stuff I didn't like.

Yep. It's too far away! I would love to go.
It is worth it at least once. I went with friends and split the cost. A reasonably priced weekend and great memories made.

Its all good summer without heat is called winter....get over it. It cant be in everyones back yard ,long drive to get there?too bad got anything closer to you ? I bet you don't. Tax ID....well god forbid we make some cash that big brother doesn't know about. they pulled that **** at Etown years ago, never made a shits *** of a difference. if you do it for a living you should pay your taxes, hills? its good cardio. as for $3 waters anyone doing that should be thrown out on there *** with no water. And those people selling the same **** for the last 20 years? well they might just go to get out of the house and enjoy a cool weekend with NOS (neet old stuff) all around them. Pay for your space for next year before you leave because if you don't, there may be NO next year. running that kind of event is expensive.
