I bought my 1969 RR off the internet through a classic car dealer. I even paid for an inspection and did my research. Well so far I had to replace the starter, starter relay, I have a short somewhere, I need to replace most of the wiring, needed to get a new steering box which was a huge job taking it out! My plan was to buy a car and drive, that's what I paid for! The body on it is solid, hardly no rust, I guess I have that going for me. I think if I would have seen this car in person, I don't think I would have bought it. I planned on doing little things while I drove it and also have it repainted because the paint is not good which I knew about before I bought it. I don't even know how good it runs because I just drove it a 1/2 mile home from the car transport. Sorry, I just had to vent!!

vent away That all sucks....but I would never buy a car (classic) with out seeing it in person and driving it or inspecting it my self. Whoever inspected it for you should be put up against the wall and shot

Mpro, I hate being ripped off, no matter what it is and secondly I hate to see honest hardworking people get ripped off as well.
If the body is as good as you say, meaning no rust and not all fill of body filler, being that you did not inspect it yourself, consider yourself lucky.
It could have been worse, much worse. As long as you didn't overpay to much, you'll get the car sorted out and be happy with the end result.
Best of luck to you

Seeing a car in person is the best way to gauge the value of any car. Stuff will still slip by but in cases such as this one, the problems may have been avoided by either seeing the car in person or knowing the person that did the inspection.
Old cars can hide a multitude of nickle and dime problems that may not bee seen without a little drive time. A car with a bad radiator can run fine for 5 minutes yet spew all its guts after a 10 minute drive.
If the rest of the car is solid, take it as a lesson and learn from it.
Good luck and welcome to the old car community!

Couldn't agree with you more! I thought I took every precaution, but I guess I didn't. I will make the best of it though, or at least try!

Thanks, I hope to get this stuff fixed and be able to drive it! The body is good on it.

Thanks, its a good lesson I learned for sure!

It sounds like you did all the right things to buy a car the way you did. unfortunately the people you paid/depended on droped the ball. you should tell as many people that will listen who they are and the dealer that sold the car. And call them and tell them they suck. I know I want to know who they are

Pacific Classics, I don't mind telling people. I did call him and let him know how I felt. Didn't do any good! I tried calling the inspector but I couldn't get hold of him.

I had an inspector come look at a car i was selling years ago. What an effing joke. Guy didnt know what he was looking at let alone give any kind of an accurate report. I called the potential buyer and told him the moron did not have half the issues wrote down that i tried to tell him about.
You didnt get ripped off. You went about the deal the wrong way. You HAVE to look at the car yourself.
As far as eletrical gremlins one must assume there will be some on a 50 year old car. Always has been. Always will be. Enjoy what you have and move on.

Yeah, I'm dealing with the gremlins now with new harnesses.

Not to down-play your situation but if your problems come down to parts that can be unbolted and replaced, you got a decent deal compared to the poor sacks that buy perfumed pigs with Bondo over rust, quarter panels riveted on, sawdust in transmissions, etc.
I'll admit that it sucks *** from the crack to the sack when you get taken.

There's nothing worse than having the wind taken out of your sails. I've bought 2 sight unseen. My 69 RR came w hidden surprises (positive & negative)
It had an electrical short and a bad steering box...
The good surprise was a folder w all the documentation and receipts from day 1. Window Sticker, Dealer paperwork and service history from 69-present day...
get her fixed and enjoy her....just know that things are always gonna have to be done to maintain her

I've learned the hard way myself, not anymore.

Times like this you have to find the good and focus on that, sounds like you got a solid car, the rest is peanuts in comparison as far as fixing goes. I'd love to only have to worry about wiring on most of mine lol. Keep your chin up and get it straightened out.

Caveat Emptor. Sorry to hear this. As said, a short drive with the engine running more than 10 minutes can reveal a lot. Odors, controls and switches work or not. My favorite is “ac works, but needs a charge. Not likely. In person or no purchase for me.

there is a reason why most cars from this era are not used as daily drivers anymore...
if that is all of your gripes, feel very Lucky
