So, I have a leak in my air grabber vacuum canister. I seem to have 2 choices that I can find on the internet. Reproduction that looks nothing like the original for $95 or a used factory one for $145.

I would "prefer" it too be factory BUT, I'm more interested in it not leaking vacuum. I can't decide which way to go. What do you guys think? Thanks!

try soldiering it. or is it to rusty ?
I can't see any hole on the outside, so I'm assuming it's a rubber diaphragm inside that's leaking. I don't hear a "hiss" either, but it's leaking. The idle is rough & the scoop closes right away when I shut off the engine (don't have the bleed-down thing installed at the switch). The switch is probably leaking a little bit too, but again, I can't hear any "hiss" inside the car either.

put some regulated air in the tank while you hold it under water.

the one way valve is rubber is so the vac will hold in can for a week or so.

Now THAT is an interesting idea. I will have to think about how to regulate air down to 5psi or so, how to connect to the canister & how to block off the other holes. I may give that a shot.

Anyone else have any knowledge about using 50yr old factory canisters? How often do these leak when they get old?

slick air sold at some parts store. or use tape for the ports . dont mean to be rude but rap your lips around one port blow rely hard then slip the tape to the port you blew lol sorry. or get that air in a can for computers.

You are funny....but helpful. I guess I will try to isolate my leak

If you can't fix it, pm me, I have some OE Trico cans. As to your question I sold a bunch of these I collected in the 90s, none reported as leaking.
