It all looks good, but it sat for many years in a Oregon garage (probably hardly ever used too) must be the old Freon. Nothing works, not the blower, and the compressor does not kick on. Was told these won't work at all if out of Freon. Wondering if I can just pump in some R134, or do I have to replace a lot of internals?.

You need to pressure test w nitrogen and find the leaks first, then evacuate and recharge. About 75% of the old R12 charge if you're doing 134a. The professionals say 134 is not compatible with the old mineral oil. the blower should work regardless in those years.

To do it right you need to evacuate the system and pressure test like Demonic stated. The compressor seals are normally the culprit for loosing what was in it. When changing to 134 it's recommended to replace the dryer.

I had a 92 Buick that needed charging. They wanted almost $400 to do it right. I bought the 134 kit at a parts house. Took out the valve stem where you fill it and it was empty. Replaced the valve stem, screwed the supplied hose on to it, and installed three cans. It only takes so much and won't take anymore. Worked like a charm! Not as cold as a R12 system but it was cold enough. $30 bucks. Not the recommended way to do it but it shows you what you can get by with.

See the oil accumulation on top of your compressor, looks like it could be from oil vapor leaking out the front seal.

whats that connector doing the blue one.someone has done something to the wiring. go to fuse box and make sure blower fuse is o.k. and then the clutch fuse. if you have a power probe use it as your switch and power up the blower and clutch just to see if they will work. if you change over to 134a make sure to follow what everyone has said above.

fwi i might be wrong but that ac system is aftermarket it is not factory, i could be wrong and if i am feel free to call me a dumbass.

Not sure if it is, it just looks like such a clean setup under the dash and with the 4 vents, I just ASSumed it was factory.

That's a York compressor.

Typically found on fords and aftermarket installs.

it was about the time that aftermarket kits started. the dealerships were even installing them as a option to get you to buy the car you wanted. also if i remember correctly that the aftermarket units were to show that any car could be a/c ready. it was like Mr. Norm putting in the big blocks in darts if you really wanted it.

fwi, did you run the build sheet on your car

YY1 is correct. York compressors were used on most aftermarket installs. We installed many back in the day working at Montgomery Wards Auto Care..
Dealer installed using Mopar parts would have a RV2 such as in this photo. This was on a 68 Valiant.

FWI, There is some hinkey things going on in the photo you have posted. One that I can see is the EGR valve on the exhaust manifold. No such thing back in 63. Slant Six exhaust manifolds are prone to cracking so someone changed it at one time.
You gotta show us photos of the rest of the car !!!!

I will take some photos this afternoon, should I remove that valve?

I have to find that fuse

Is the fill hose the top one or the bottom one?

Under your "H" is a "5" which translates to heater with front defroster. Code 385 if it's a Hamtramck car. Fourth digit in your vin # would be a "2"

Under the "H" would be where the AC code would be if it was so ordered.

Nope, leave the EGR valve for now. It's not hooked up anyway.

YYi is right, it is a York, says so right on the front of it (after I wiped the dirt off).
Took the AC refill caps off, both have air in them......
Also, I cannot find a fuse box anywhere, looked all under the dash, sides, engine.....does this car even have a fuse box?

fwi, mine was center of dash but unknown for you put your hand above your a/c could have buried it with a/c installed.
