A lot of us probably first saw the kind of car we wanted on TV, movies, or in print before we saw the real thing in person. What made you want yours? I'd like to hear from you, post comments, opinions, etc.

I'll share my stepdads story. His "first" car was a 1966 Dodge Charger, silver with black interior and a Poly 318. He went by a dealership and saw it out front, he went back with his dad and bought it. It never ran when he had it, so he sold it. His first car was a 1970 Buick station wagon. He also had a 69 Charger. All I know about that one is he hit a deer with it. I'll get more details and post them.

The car that caught me was a Gasser Henry j in Cresent city California while on holidays with my parents Burgandy paint. Still sticks with me daily. So much. I went and bought my future 44000 mile wannabe some day J

Live and in person since I was I was a kid walking home from school, a 70’s Plum Crazy Cuda ripping up the streets and always in front of a Panther Pink Challenger.

Cuda fever took over and has never calmed down since. For me, that car is the top notch bad *** muscle car of all time.

Second car to take the same story minus being a bad *** muscle car ripping up the streets is a ‘79 Magnum. I like the rear tail lights better.
Awesome raid car. I love love love driving it everywhere.

A guy in my neighborhood had a 1960's built, street driven, Henry J straight axle with small Hallibrands and M/H slicks. It had a 327 setting almost between the seats. The transmission tunnel was clear plexi and it had a clear Distributor Cap.

I'll take the easy answer.
The General Lee. I always liked Chargers even before I was old enough to drive. It was a popular car but the interest really took off when the show started.
My grandfather was an old Mopar guy so it wasn't a hard sell.

Growing up in Hopewell, NJ in the '60s, there weren't many cool cars around as it was working class and most folks had four doors with straight sixes. However, there was one guy who was at least 10 years older than I who always seemed to have 2 or 3 C2 Corvettes at his house. Those cars really stood out in a sea of Biscaynes, Valiants, and Ramblers. Then, when I was 9 or 10, a guy up the street bought a black over gold Dart GT, V8, bucket seats. I fell in love with that car. Then, my dad traded the Rambler for a black over white Satellite. I was crushed when he traded that Satellite for a Fury. My cousin bought a new '70 Barracuda Gran Coupe and I lusted after that for years. I eventually wound up with it, but, by then, it was a rust bucket.

Sox and Martin's '71 Cuda Lil Boss was in a Reader's Digest ad in '71. I was seven. Problem is, I still want one.

Here's the ad... believe it not, I actually still have the one I ripped out of the magazine all those years ago too.

I want them all, that's why I had 26 Mopar project cars a year ago! I guess if I had to pick a couple of the cars that had that effect on me,the 68 Charger is one,I was just a little kid staring out the window of my moms Chevy Impala at the gas station attendant putting gas in the 68 Charger R / T on the other side of the service island. When I saw him putting the gas into the top of the quarter panel, I was amazed, and then when the guy fired it up,and then took off blazing the tires sideways down the street, I was hooked. Two years later my mom's new car was a 70 Charger R / T SE. The other car that had that effect, was a 71 Hemi Orange Cuda, that was pulled over by the local law enforcement officers. They had this hispanic dude with huge afro hair out of the car,up against the Police cruiser. As I walked by the car,I noticed that it had painted bumpers, a pistol grip shifter, louvers on the fenders, and it said Cuda 440+6 on the argent shaker bubble . It was such a cool car.

I was riding in back seat of my friends dad's trans am when we got a race it was a 72 plum purple 440 4 speed charger good was it fast! The trans am didn't know what happened ever since then I wanted one and now have a 72 340 4 speed charger

Oh man, Earl Fields 68 bronze Roadrunner. Hooker headers decal on the fender, M+H street slicks, 4 speed. And me on Borton Landing Road in Moorestown waiting for him to come up the shop drive after starting her up and leaving Belmont Excavating. Then he had to deal with a pesky 10 year old asking him every day to do a "patchout." I must have really gotten tiresome. Fast forward, Summer 1979, I sell my 72 Toronado and buy a 68 bronze Roadrunner in Cherry Hill for $425 from Buck Streahle. And no, it wasn't. Mine was a column 727.

The 66 Plymouth caught my eye but really liked the 2dr sedans a bit better than the HT's. My first 66 was a mo door and had a lot of fun with it once the teen got replaced with a mild 383....and that was my first engine swap too. Had a lot of firsts with that car including getting air born, drag racing and winning trophies, dating, sex, someone taking it at a party and hiding it making me think someone stole it and losing a girl friend because I was so pissed when the gag was divulged.....and a few other crazy things. Finally found a decent 2dr sedan 30 years ago and still have it....all be it in pieces :(

Anybody from the Pittsburgh Pa. area would know this one from the 60's-70's. The STEEL CITY WEDGE.That's why I have 3 early "B's" today

Growing up there was a yellow 1969 superbee and a B5 blue 1970 superbee that both left indelible influences on me.
That was back in the mid 80’s when these cars were nothing more than used cars.
I’m still looking for the whereabouts of the blue 1970.
The yellow car is stuck in probate as the owner has died and left quite a mess.

I saw a 68 GTX - swore if I could ever get the money together that would be the car I would buy. I test drove a lot of cars that were less expensive like 67 SS 396 Chevelle, 67 GTO, a whole array of others. Then I came in to some extra cash. Bought the 68 GTX of my dreams in 71. Still have it today. There’s been other cars that I’ve admired for sure - 69 Six Pack Super Bee, Boss 429 and others but it was the GTX that made me wet my pants back in the day.

[] The 70's Prostock Mopars got me. Couldn't afford anything but my old Dart at the time. A friend had bought an AAR Cuda and it had me drooling. It was in 72 and I was food shopping at Path Mark after my shift and after midnight;(they were open all night). Well, in the parking lot was a 383 / 4 spd. Sublime Challenger RT. Well, while checking out, something had no price on it and the cashier asked if I really needed it because hunting down the price with a limited staff was a PIA. I said I can do without that but what I really want is that green Challenger in the parking lot! She said that it belonged to one of the night crew guys and she would page him for me. She did and even though the car was not for sale I talked him into selling it to me. I never had a loan before so my brother co-signed for me but 2 days later the car was mine! Still one of my favorites today, wish I still had it!
