Figured id post this up for my buddy who is doing this 68X. Definitely not a project for the feint of heart! To be honest i think he likes the challenge and to prove it can be done. He made up the frame jig and (as you can see) there was very little sheet metal that was worth saving. Some could have been repaired but with aftermarket available he decided to go with all new metal. Unfortunately the rockers had mouse nests in them which were completely wet and rotted them from the inside.

Car is silver with the black stripes just above the rockers. Has the original 18 spline 4 speed / dana 60 and fendertag. Plan is a stockish appearance with a 500 stroker under the hood (original 440 is long gone) The last owner had it sitting under a tarp since the early 1980s. Came with a TON of parts (many NOS that are not readily available) for the GTX.

Ill periodically post updates if anyone is interested. He tends to move quickly so this isnt a typical 4-5 year project.

Wow may the force be with him. Will the car be worth all that work?

Its certainly not about the money. He loves a project and quite frankly the amount of parts he got with it will cover a lot of the things he needs to buy. No intent to sell down the road.

We had a brief discussion on finding / rebadging a 68 belevedere that was in better shape but he said he couldn't live with himself. lol

That is definitely an aggressive project! I've save a few that I thought were rough.... but this one makes them look easy.

Do you have any "before" pictures?
He definitely knows what he is doing and has the right equipment. Supporting what is left of the car in the proper position is a must and he has that covered.

He's a braver man than me for sure. Wow.

Hey, by the way I have literally hundreds of pics of mine when the former owner took it down
and replaced a ton of metal on it; the car sat in a field for a long time, so it needed a lot of the pans and
quarters and such replaced.
If they'd be of any help, just let me know. Happy to share.
Good luck with the project!

Figure id update for those interested. Car is now off the frame jig and onto the rotisserie. All sheet metal has been replaced and the gaps came out really nice. A FYI if you ever need to deal with it but the A pillars were a MF. The aftermarket ones he bought are not the correct length and he had to find some OEMs on the internet. This is a known issue but they continue to sell them anyway.... jerks
Frame connectors and torque boxes also installed. Engine was dynoed Monday and she cranked out 575HP / 612 torque. Should be a nice street combination.

Very nice progress indeed. Love that heartbeat you had dyno Tested. Came out very close to mine.
