This is why I don't like new hot-tuff Camaros and Mustangs

My son and I have this discussion several times. We see these neato scenes with those two cars makes ripping up closed course canyon roads they've driven thousands of times. They might take it to a famous racetrack or a racetrack they own.

Oh, this one turns in slightly better or the steering feels better at the limits of the grip in a corner or goes sideways, tires smoking through a corner that's four lanes wide.

I mean who does that with their new pride and joy expensive car? What, we are supposed to be going to the track or our own private road course every other day. I don't want to risk losing it in a corner going 100 mph on the highway!

That seems to be what GM and Ford are selling.

Now, on the other hand, how many times do you get to accelerate up an entrance ramp or take it to the drags? Here you can go on the 1/8 mile no prep track as many times as you want for $20. Maybe the snotty kid in his dad's Beemer decides he's going to show you up on the 0-50 mph at the stop light and jumps out hard.

That's what Dodge is selling.

When THIS car was less than a month old and under 1000 miles...

I drove it at Willow Springs and got it to 115 in the straight. I wore several thousand miles worth of tire tread off the skins that one day.
Later that year, the Wife got it up to:

The first week after I got my 2000 Dakota R/T (in 2002) I sure as hell tested the handling and was satisfied it was in fact MUCH better than the 1993 Dakota LE it replaced.

Not sure what your seeing SteveSS but all the Dodge commercials I see lately have smoke rolling off the tires and cars sliding around. Dodge is the one selling HP right now.

I wouldn't try cornering to hard with my 65, but with the 5.7 Hemi, 5 speed auto, and 323 gears in her, 1600 rpm at 70 mph, so 130 mph is a walk in the park. I have no idea how fast it will go!

Here, the Stang and Camero drivers go nuts when they spot me. Often you can hear them buzzing in traffic desperately trying to catch up from behind. This is daily. They bother the 69 the most, but romp around when I drive the Challenger too.

Greg, is that an 8 speed auto? Both my rides are stick. I should drive your car! Maybe I would be a convert like the efi change. Did you add that R/T badging to the grille?

I got a 99 Dakota rt in 2000. That was one of my fave vehicles I've ever had

The Challenger is an R/T, 5.7 with the 8 speed. It is a decent trans and the car never seems to be in the wrong gear. It has great response at just about any road speed. This is Mary's FIRST V8 car. She does not know or want to drive a manual transmission. We ordered it equipped the way that we wanted, no sunroof or leather....It has the Super Track Pack option package. That included bigger brakes, Goodyear 200 TW tires, the Bilstein shocks, a 3.06 diff. (2.62 was stock)
Drive my car? Sure! Mary is the actual "owner" of the Challenger but she likes you so I doubt she'd decline the request. I want you to drive the Charger sometime too. Remember, I am actually inching closer to a Tremec 5 speed swap too !

No leather or moonroof in mine either. Also a Tracpac car. I just want to experience an 8 speed. Can’t wrap my brain around that. You’ll like mine even better with the blower on it. now. You can drive my rides anytime you want.

I’m losing it, mine has the Badge too.

Mary will have her car at the CCM show in Rancho Cordova. If we meet up for dinner later, I'll twist her arm to let you drive it.

I agree about the way they advertise those cars ! But I think the mustang is a lot of bang for the buck and dam good looking. I had a 99 and I never had any problems with it ! Was a fun car to drive ! But it is not a Mopar ! Which I do favor big time !!! And love !!
