Welp I had an extra box that could use some love. So I decided to clean her up and off her when I’m done. Got the DMT kit and a new core. She will be brand new!

Wheres the old core? Id keep it and have it refurbished.

I need to follow this thread as mine is trashed also. Whatever that blend flappy door thingy is up top is rusted to the point it came loose from its' pivots and just flops around inside when the cable tries to move it.

If yours is trashed too badly, you can have an entire different used assy shipped to your house. Probably cost you $300 or so.

Ive got 3 of them. For sone reason I felt it necessary to hoard a few of them. They may come from a Satellite or a Charger but in my case it doesnt matter as long as its for a 68-70 B body w a/c

Bee is right, I just sold an un-restored one for $300. My question is where is this one gonna price at when all finished up?

Ive got the old core, it came out with no leaks. I just figured putting a new one in was beneficial.
The new ones may not fit & and it seems the old ones are heavier duty.

I take mine to a radiator repair shop where they are cleaned, repaired and pressure tested. Cost me $50 or so.

Even if you stay with your decision on putting a new one in the old may bring a few bucks (definitely worth more than price of scrap)

BeeKool is spot on, new ones typically don’t fit right. I restored my heater box last winter. Bob at Glen Ray does an outstanding job of reworking mopar heater cores and radiators.

The one that was in there was a repop, we will see!

I know next to zero about these. Would an a/c box work in a car that never had a/c?

Probably not. IIRC The holes in the firewall are specific to a/c or non a/c.

I just assumed that a GTX being the gentleman's muscle car, would have a/c. If your car is non a/c a used heater box is probably much less cost. And is most certaunly much easier and cheaper to rebuild. Its much more compact.
The heater core itself is the same I think though.

The heater core is probably the only part of the box that doesn't need any attention right now. :)
It's new and I run antifreeze through it in colder months (just took the heater hoses off a couple days ago, in fact).

Do I see correctly that it only takes like (3) nuts removed on the outside of the firewall for the whole box to come out?

On an a/c style its 5.
On a non a/c IDK.

It helps to have the seat(s) removed.

That is correct (at least for 69 b body non a/c). Three nuts hold it in place on the firewall.
