Saw it parked on the street outside a shop in the nearby downtown shopping area. Couldn’t stop to get a closer look. When I drove by later in the afternoon it was gone.

Ahh yea the ole Barracudant, yup love hate going on right there..
Has a face only a Mother could love..

My old man loves those and the 62-63 darts and stuff. They are definitely a love it or hate it car for sure.
How about 63-66 Darts. 62's were B bodies. The early ones were ugly little ducklings.

Yea I stay away from all those as I am not into them at all. I know 64-72 stuff.

It's still pretty in my eyes! I actually had one years back. That one is a 65. I have a matching set of 4 Fenton Gyro aluminum slots for the old A body 4" lug pattern. I'll take the car if it's so unloved, LOL.

I always thought my 66 Dart looked like a 65 Coronet. Kinda.

Actually, I have nothing but a love relationship for those cars. I had several. My first, a 65 Dart went over 300,000 miles while thrashing the sh-t out of it all the way! Check out my old rides in my photo garage.:D

Next door neighbor had one exactly like the one of our topic, black, 4 speed, 5 spoke Cragars and that hot solid lifter small block that I had to help rebuild after the timing chain/ water pump cover developed a hole and turned the oil into chocolate.
Didn't care much for the early Barracuda until the 68's came out and established it's own identity, the following years were nothing short of bitchen….

I was more of a Dart man myself. In fact, my 65 Barracuda had a 66 Dart front clip on it. Sadly, I can't find any pictures of it. It was a /6 with a 4 speed. I put Keystone classics on it.
They were a simple but reliable fun little toys!

I like it. Never had one but I have seen a few set up with a nice stance and wheels to make it work for me.

and they are hard to resell, esp if you are in too deep.

one of my friends has basically the same car,a 273 formula s 4 speed car.
he overpaid for the car from the start..
like almost 7 grand for what i considered a 3500 car at most....
then dropped a coupla grand into details.
drove the car rarely and then wanted to put a magnum drivetrain in it....
because the exhaust/factory/ broke...
now the car just sits around in a sad state.

he ended up buying a little miata, throwing 2 grand at it and having a little go cart with a big turbo....Lot of fun for such a tiny car.
meanwhile, the mopars he owns havent been touched since.
all just sitting in storage month after month, year after year.
sigh.

That generation Barracuda had the opportunity to be the Mustang killer, and Chrysler swung and struck out! Had they done what Ford did with the Mustang and did a sporty new body on the Falcon chassis, and not just made a moderately appealing Valiant into a fastback they could have owned that market segment. Chrysler almost did it twice, if you read the Hemmings article on Richard Sias, about how the mockup clay model for the 68 Charger was slated to be destroyed, and an updated version of the 67 Charger fastback going to be the new 68 model. Thankfully the guy who told his subordinates to destroy the original 68 Charger clay mockup, took a two week vacation, and when he returned, his bosses had seen the mockup model and approved it as the 68 Charger,or they would have struck out swinging again.

Does he want to sell any?? Regardless of ones opinion of how they look, they are arguably one of the most reliable cars ever built! That applies to the entire A body line up, all the way through 1976. I met a guy, long ago, who used to race brackets at Island Dragway in NJ. He bought a 4 door 63 Valiant slant 6 push button automatic for $25. He painted it baby blue with a paint brush and mounted a tach. on the dash. Although it looked like hell, it was so consistent he would run eliminator and won so often, the entire rear windows and rear glass of the car were covered with win stickers. He literally won thousands of dollars. Word had it he never even changed the oil and sold it for $100. Of course the reliability factor extends through the vast majority of the entire Chrysler line of cars and trucks!

Gonna restore them some day he says, meanwhile have another beer. :wtf:
Like so many laying around rotting... ought to be a law.

I don't see the thrill of running consistent 26 second 1/4 mile ets @64 mph, maybe its just me.
I totally agree but watching him take off and be 75% of the way down the track before a dragster even started was just weird and most of the time he won. Of course the competition would occasionally break out of their bracket even when they won. I remember way back at Englishtown we were watching races between 2 VW Beatles. The announcer said during the race, "This is exciting, isn't folks? By the way, we had spaghetti 3 times last week. Anyone read any good books lately?" Everybody laughed their butts off. Was a joke to watch after seeing top fuel!
