505 Stroker Oil Level

It's dyno at 550 and 400 at the wheels? Your loosing a lot through drive train. My thought is are you running a pcv? If so is there a baffle still under your valve cover? It could be pulling oil through your pcv.

If it will dyno 550 horsepower, that's not bad. Drive it awhile, may figure out what's up with the oil consumption. Make sure your dipstick is reading correctly.

that's a 27% loss in the drivetrain, IF both dynos are correct. people with auto trans and strokers want to run loose torque converters; a poor mix and power killer.

Don't mean to hi Jack, but how much would you expect to lose thru a 4500 to 5000 stall converter?
 
If it has a tray and there is no evidence the crank is hitting it, why go to all the hassle of changing it? It sure as hell isn't causing the oil loss !!

I am going by the symptoms. Smoke when I get on it after the oil is full. Massive burn down then no more smoke. Some have said the tray or lack thereof could be the issue. Others say this would not be the consumption issue.

Confused... planning to have the new tray installed Friday. I assume that is about an hour job?

Seems like you're missing checking the simple things first. You need to verify where the oil consumption is first. Simplest thing is to read your plugs. I haven't read where you've done this.

Your leak down test sounds like you did a compression test. That's not the same.

I've heard many times when the intake didn't sit flat on the heads and oil was being sucked up from under the gasket. Reading your plugs will show lots of carbon if this is taking place.

Useing a bore scope is a good way to see how much carbon is on your piston tops and you can see how much cross hatch is visible on the cylinder walls.

These are all easy to do and don't cost much.
 
Use the scientific method. Step one, identify the problem. See what the problem is, or what is causing the oil consumption. Then fix the problem. Can be caused by 1, worn valve guides or bad seals. 2, worn or broken rings. 3, bad seal on intake gasket bottom. 4 , too high oil level . Good luck!

Precisely what I was thinking. At this point indications point to #4 too much oil. So... drain oil and measure amount that comes out. Pour same oil into dismounted oil pan. Measure the distance from the oil pan flange to the oil pickup and crank. Assess. Add the amount of oil that usually indicates full on dipstick and also note location proximity to pickup and crank. If needed adjust the dipstick tube.

Also by the way. It just did the symptoms all over again. It has been running clean, no smell or smoke and is feeling very strong. I checked the oil and it is not registering at all. Looks completely empty. I had one quart and he gets to halfway to the ad oil mark. I go drive it and when I nail it out comes some smoke.

Clearly this issue is too much oil Or some sort of pick up when did you issue. Otherwise if that were valve guides or cylinders The smoke will always be there.

I’m going to do the steps above on Monday.
