Did They Install My Upper Control Arms Backwards?!!

Whatever they are, do we need 'em? Looking up split pins on line definitons, they are described as the same as cotter pins. Maybe in Canada different terms are used?

Split pins or roll pins are not the same as cotter pins. It’s a safety issue, like the ball joint stud nuts, should the nuts back off completely while driving, it could be a very bad day for somebody.

I see Dorman lists a different disc brake hose for '72 Satellite vs '72 Road Runner:
Sat H35017 @ 14.38"
RR H73278 @ 13.88"
perhaps it might be one is for drum brakes and the other is for discs?
werent the disc brakes all the same?

If anyone can explain/demonstrate the difference, I would like to know. I did a little searching but could not figure this out on my own. Most everything out there in "Google Land" lumps them together as one item, which I realize is not always correct:

Then this guy's video, he only bends one side:

dadsbee's picture after your post shows a split pin. It's spring steel and is slightly larger O.D. than the hole it is pressed into, so it uses friction to stay in place.

The bumpers on my 71 Satty looked just like this one and I bought a set. The ones that were there were the originals. I have been searching for LCA's and I noticed that different years, 62-72 that were listed for sale had some that looked like this and others had some that looked like your picture, Dibbons. I was wondering if maybe a previous owner of your car got arms or bumpers from a different year car. I searched bumpers on ebag and came across some that had that peg on one side like yours and they turned out to be from a cheby.

Altered wheel base car!:rofl:Not really funny but couldn't resist

Notice the tilt built into the ball joint mount.

Look closely, it is tilted to the right, making this a RH control arm.

To me, that picture is of a "roll pin". As far as the video of how to install a cotter pin, he should have added: "In my opinion". Have you ever sliced open a finger on the straight end of a cotter pin installed like that? I bend one side and clip off the other. I don't think I've ever re-used an old pin.

Roll pin, split pin, spring pin...all interchangeable terms. https://www.engineersedge.com/roll_pin.htm
