Amen to that! My brother's 2001 Ram 2500 Cummins has 405,000 miles on the original engine and still going strong...

Ouch sorry to hear that.I had to replace my 2003 Ram 3500 tow vehicle with Red 2007 3500. My 5.9 diesel seized. The 07 has 6.7. My poor 03 had a tough life. Although not a whole lot of miles (Little over 100k) They were hard miles. (4 trips over Colorado mountains to Vegas towing 32' 14K lb trailer.) To just name a few duties.
I race Mopars thus in case Chrysler happens to be watching? A Ram truck would be prudent. (Although I have not seen any evidence of a Power Stroke or Duramax advantage. In fact, possibly less desirable.) The 2007's life should be less stressful. Though it will have some heavy towing duties. Nothing like in the beginning. I also now have better diesel experience. My 03 motor failure was certainly part owner's fault!

I'm hoping too about fluke. Motor wasn't huffing out of exhaust or head which is typical of a tired diesel. Something ugly happened below. I'll make decision on 03 next week. I at least will have a vehicle that can support the hurt Ram.Ouch sorry to hear that.
I confess to being a mopar guy for cars but my tow/hunting truck is a power stroke.
I'd have thought a 5.9 run forever. That has to be a fluke.
Curious to what cause that.
Yes I had a 98 dually ! I was younger then and my hearing was better. Each evolution gets better.05 is noisy?? Have you ever driven an early 12 valve lol. Sometimes the noise they make is a Godsend as sometimes conversations can last way too long when sitting in the driveway and trying to leave!
Yes. And far more than just fluids. Up on rack annually to check breaks and hub. As well as 4x4. Again, it's own weight can mask problems. By the time you feel a grind or wobbles? It's already chewing away.Amen to that! My brother's 2001 Ram 2500 Cummins has 405,000 miles on the original engine and still going strong...
Good luck with the hunt. And yes, they are expensive. That makes my loss more painful. The primary value of the vehicle is the motor. More than gas vehicles. Without the big Cummins? a $12k truck turns into a $2k truck at best.Sorry to read about the bad luck of the big bad Cummins seizing up on you. My 96' Ram with 170K has been flawless for 23 years. This truck owes me nothing. Rusting off the frame now from MI winters. I am starting to look at 03' and up Dodge Duallys as a replacement. But man, most have more miles than mine and are still over 25K around here.
