what are we using for dana 60 street use only oil. thanks
 
Dr diff recommends to use Walmart’s brand of gear lube along with the friction modifier.......that’s what I have used for years and zero issues....

There will be opinions all over the place in this...

synthetic or regular 75w90w
 
Regular Valvoline 75-90W with the ferd additive for power loc sure grip.
 
My rear axle shop likes 85-140 but it does get hot here..ford additive seems to be the best these days. It's extra stinky!

I just hung onto some real 40 year old stuff, wish I'd bought a few cases as I'm out!

I use this in both the Dana and transmission. (Sure grip additive in the rear)

X2. Been using it for years as well as the Ford friction modifier that Cass recommends
 
I had a good friend (passed away now from cancer) who made his living as a one man rearend shop. His specialty was nine inch ford for racers, but he could work on anything. If the customer insisted on synthetic gear oil, he would warrantee his work for six seconds/six inches, whichever came first. Most people took his advice and used dino gear oil. Dino gear oil has been used for trillions of miles. My friend recommended torco.
If Dr.Diff recommended Wal-Mart, thats good enough for me. Ford limited slip additive for sure.

The limited slip unit in my Dana 70 (2500 diesel) was chattering with the Syn oil which had the limited slip additive already in it. I recently drained it out and added regular name brand (had it on the shelf) 80w-90 with two bottles of the Mopar additive (the rear holds 3 quarts) and just doing 3 runs down to the cul-de-sac I noticed a considerable difference. The synthetic was 75-140. The rear also has new gears that had a slight whine from 55-65 but haven't made any highway runs yet since the truck isn't registered right now and don't want to chance a ticket. Using the syn was kind of an experiment after doing a bunch of reading about synthetics for rear ends. There's just as much pro as there is con on it but.....I won't be doing that again but hope to also not do anymore rear end work....at least for myself.

On what weight to use....if you plan on doing some heavy duty towing, go with the higher weight but other than that, imo, going with the heavier stuff isn't necessary but if temp is a worry, shoot it with a temp gun after a 1/2 hour of running and see what you have. If it's in range, go for a longer period of time and shoot it again and see if the temp goes higher. Also, the heavier weight will consume more power and you probably see a difference in fuel consumption....
 
Bought 3 cans of 60's/70's SG lube on ebay. Don't know if I'll ever use it. Opened cans and a weak odor of rotten eggs.

Which has a ARB locker so on their site they do not recommend using the clutch additive for the limited slips
Because the additive tends to eat up gaskets
So was going to by pass the additive this round
Wonder what others think on that

I would go with what ARB says to do with their product.....

If its truly a locker, there are no clutches, and you dont need the friction modifier.
Ive got a detroit locker in my 8 3/4. Torco 85/140, no additives.
