No Hood In Arizona?

Very cool! We’re looking at the possibility of relocating to that area.

Lots of good RE deals here, for now.......only downside is the loooong summers with 100+ temps.

Our downside is 5 months of crappy winter and 4 months of hot and muggy summer so 9 months of **** and a few nice days scattered in between.

Bull Head is not in the valley. That should help some with summer temps. The well to do go to the mountains in the summer time to get away from the heat and the valley in the winter.

Ron ... I wonder if there is an issue with your VIN in the DMV database. You might try one of the Third Party office rather than going to the actual DMV.

Three Inspection Levels
Level II/III inspections are performed at Enforcement and Compliance Division (ECD) Inspection locations.
Level I
Conducted at MVD and Authorized Third Party offices, or by designated law enforcement officers. Level I inspections are for out-of-state vehicles without proof of title and/or registration, and for bonded titles. This is required only for certain vehicles. Most vehicles are successfully inspected and verified at this level. There is no fee for a Level I inspection conducted at an MVD office; however, third party providers may charge a fee.

Level II
This inspection can only be performed at ADOT ECD inspection locations. Secondary inspection is conducted when unusual circumstances indicate that a secondary VIN should be examined. A Level II inspection is conducted by specially certified ADOT officers. The fee is $20 and, if a new Arizona number needs to be assigned, a $5 fee will be added. Level II vehicle inspections are by appointment only. To schedule an online appointment, please go to www.servicearizona.com for the date, time and location convenient to you.

In some cases where a Level II inspection is conducted, a review at a later date may determine that a Level III inspection is required. You will then be required to pay an additional $30.

Just thought I would close this thead with what I found out. Soooo I now have my car registered without a hood. Here’s the deal. If your car is insured by a clasic car insurance company you do NOT need a level 1 inspection.

Satisfy those of us who wonder. What is the reason for requiring a hood? It must be safety related.

Never made that determination. Maybe it frightens gurls without one lol.

So as I am working towards getting the **** bucket roadworthy....

HEY....Don't be so harsh with the comments about your car.
Post up some pictures and let US be the judges. If it is a **** Bucket, let us decide!

So as I am working towards getting the **** bucket roadworthy I don’t think my carborator will clear the hood without opening it up. I have not yet determined what I will do in the long run ie scoop or just an exposed carb air filter etc. or if someone will give me an air grabber set up (my prefernce).

I am wondering if I can even register the car here in AZ without the hood until I figure it out. I am thinking no for no good reason. I don’t see it stipulated anywhere.

Just bought a PU in California. As long as you have a clean title it no problem. I went to DMV in Apache Junction. No inspection. It’s in Pima county.

I never said the AZ DMV was fair, knowledgeable, consistent, logical just that this is what I was told me. As far as I know it could be just a load of **** with employees ******* with the public because their lives are so miserable lol

KD these are her good sides lol. I think the trunk and hood are the only panels that don’t need work. And lets not talk about her roof...

Well tonight I took my German Shepherd to the dog park in the RattySatty. Drove by two cops who couldn’t help notice me by my headers and glasspacks. No hood no problem here in Arizona apparently......

where I am no hood was legal as long as the car had a fan shroud!that's your safety side of requiring a hood!

Electric fans with a radiator shroud. I think each state is different regarding the regs. Heck I think each city is different. And ultimately each cop is different. They see a car like mine who knows what they think. I bet though its like what citations can we write for that.... headers glasspacks etc...

FWIW (for what it's worth)....I have registered several cars bought out of state and have yet to bring a car in for inspections. Just bring a clean title and proof of insurance, that's all.
