Time to hit the Track.

I'm back!

A new year is 2 weekends away from kicking off and time to pull out and dust off this old post. This is year 3 of the same on-going post, which started right from day 1 and the very first pass for me and old Gold. It's been a real learning curve and with all the documented help in this old post from many of you guys we've really come along. From 11.70's to 10.1's

Just an update on where I had left off. Last season started off with lots of weight removed, lower trans gearing and a new Ultimate converter. It took pretty much the full season to get things semi sorted out, ending up with 1.38's and 10.12's. Finished last season somewhere around 15th in the points standings. On a good note however, old gold did receive an award for best appearing car in Pro Class so that was excellent!

Right after racing season ended last fall I went to work, removed the cal tracs and split monos and installed triple adjustable ladder bars with Strange double adjustable coil overs under the back and that is where we are starting off now. So going into the season and starting all over with a new set up and I'll likely meet up against that red hot Wooks first thing.... Can't even pick on Mr. Gaines now cause he sold the Coronet!

Anyways, stay tuned for season 3. A couple pics of where we are starting off at.
Ladders are set and ready to go. Superstock racer has helped me a lot with the initial set up of these triple adjustables. He's got a load of experience with these exact bars under his cars that run well into the 8's. Very appreciative of Everyone's help, keep it coming!

I finally decided to quit hauling the E brake and Wiper system down the track this year. Another 15 lbs gone. The ladder bar set up is also 30 lbs lighter than the previous cal trac set up so old gold is going into 2019 about 40-45 lbs lighter. I also planned on a modest 10lb personal weight reduction for 2019 and only have 15 lbs to go, so that didn't work out - yet.

And a lower ride height for 2019. I also picked up rear Super trick rims for the rear over the winter, which will be going on when it's time for new rubber (got 2 sets of Hoosiers to finish off first). Will be switching back to the hemi hood scoop this year asap. Planning on knocking on 9.99's door first though.

And a shot from last year when old Gold was jumping, throwing the diff out and yanking the rear tires off the ground on launch. Going to be getting out there quicker this year on ladder bars.

Stay tuned. IMG_6051.JPG

I'm watching and waiting looking for those magic numbers. Good luck this malex.

Hoping to see some good numbers, and some round wins. Keep us posted Malex.

Thanks LW! I have .12 to pick up, more than that and the mail man will be stopping by and that's ok a time or 2. What I'm after is consistency and I think I'll have it now. I got into the 4th round twice last year, looking to better that this year. Congrats on your last outing, you did great LW!

Thanks. Yes I did have a good start to my season. I’ve been hesitant to post anything here because I don’t want to speak too soon, but I feel like I’ve found something. A couple of setup adjustments put me in a place where I was able to be really consistent on the tree with a good number. The car was as consistent as ever and I left event #1 in a good spot, both points wise and confidence wise. Hoping to keep it rolling next weekend.

Looking good Malex! Can't wait to hear results from your first outing. Just the weight reduction should put you in the 10.0s.

Mike, Your first job is to beat my personal best of 10.047 that my Coronet gave me the last run I made on it in February this year before it went to Denmark....I am confident that the first good run (after any basic sorting out) will beat that 10.04 and GOOD LUCK TO YOU.
We are all waiting for your numbers. Your Mopar Pal, Mike

If your 10.0 this year, looks like I’ll need 3/10ths of a head start on you. Should be fun.

Looking forward to the results.
Doug

Me too me too. Hope things go in the right direction. Have a great year Doug!

Thanks GTX! Little by little. I'll never be as good as many of you fellows and that's ok. I'm happy with a nice quick car and the odd win.

Mr. Gaines! I'm going to write 10.046 OR BUST on my trailer wall! If I can't get there I'll load up and head 6 hours east to the Gimli track with 0' elevation. :)
Thanks Buddy!

Malex, I think we are all a bit anxious to hear the results of the improvements, after all your labor this off season. Best of luck! :bananahit:

Thanks greatly GTXRacer! Starting all over again but the set up should be close. Just hope that last years tires hook!

I'll be doing my best to avoid you all year Wooks!

But if I do get mixed up with you Wooks, you might be able to hear my car this year!

I bet these turnouts look sort of familiar Buddy! They went on a diet today and then on my car.

Loaded up Gold Rush yesterday and took it to the weigh scales.
3210 lbs with a full tank of fuel less driver. 3420 with driver and 52.2% front weight.

Raised the rear 3/4" and reset the pinion angle after this shot. The triple adjustable ladder bars sure make it easy to dial things in.

30 lbs lighter than last year, was running 10.12's (end of season). Will see what the new times are this year with the Ladder Bar upgrade and less weight. Chances are that Gold Rush could be getting right on the 10.0 line, and stepping over once would be OK. What I'm after though is consistency, which I never had at all last year.

Could be the last race day for this hood depending on outcome. Switching back to the steel hood will put back the recent weight loss and keep me on the safe side of 10.0. Times will tell this weekend, hoping for things to go well and decent weather!

And where are those recently acquired Super tricks for the rear? Could be a wee bit lighter once you get them mounted. I'm sure those numbers you desire will be there. Best of luck and be safe! :drama:

Just a dumb question from an old guy— why not collector extensions instead of turnouts? It’s been a looong time since I raced, Jeff.

Thanks Bob!
Yes the Super Tricks are on the shelf. I've got 2 sets of mounted Hoosiers with 8/32's wear hole left on both sets. When I'm down to 1 set the Super Tricks will get some new tire and become active. 2 sets of wheels, Torq Thrusts and Super Tricks. Weight difference will be about 40 lbs. Now wouldn't be nice if I needed the steel hood and T Thrusts to stay on the safe side of 10.0!
