I would like to thank all veterans for their service and to remember all who has made the ultimate sacrifice.

Agreed. We MUST remember what this day is about. Please take a moment of silence to remember all those brave soles who gave everything for us.

Memorial Day.
An observance and not a celebration.
That's what my father always said.
(About this wedding anniversary as well.)
Commanded three minesweepers in WW2.
Sort of grates on me to hear otherwise.
Just heard it wrong on the radio.

For the living Veterans I thank you for your sacrifices you have given to the great Country proud to be in your presence. For all Military members who have passed on i pray for peace in the after life. For the families of those deceased i give you all the thanks and love i possibly can.

I'm afraid Sir, I will have to agree 100%.

Kinda grates on me to when people say "Happy" Memorial Day.

It should be a day of remembrance and thankfulness to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to their families..

A young lady I know who works at the local Ace Hardware cheerfully said, " Have a Happy Memorial Day!" to me as I was leaving Saturday. I stopped and turned around. I said, " Meghan...please tell me what You personally think memorial Day is all about, I'm just curious." She went on to say it was about remembering victories in war and about enjoying freedom and picnics and parades. She's about 23 years old.
I smiled and replied, " Got a minute?" I then told her what it is really about and why it is a special day for me, but not a good day.
I'm sorry to say that she cried a bit, and was very ashamed of herself. She's a nice kid. As I was filling her in the rest of the crew gathered around and tried to listen in. Several customers as well.

The lady who runs the place came out and gave me a long and tight hug. She whispered thank you in my ear. A customer asked if he could shake my hand. I said " Sure, but it's not about me, it's about the men I lost and all of the men and women who died to protect our freedom." He said he was a Korean War veteran and he had never heard Memorial Day explained so well, and he was tired of being told to be happy too.

Viet Nam in HD. On now. History channel. Too many commercials though. Could have been me. Thanks to all who went FOR me.

Viet Nam is an emotional subject for me. Not all of my pals came home. I remember them today. My friend (Richard Urban) did not. His Dad was our Insurance man in the days when they still made house calls. His Mom and Dad never got over the loss. Ever.

Made my own day today!! I was at the grocery store picking up some odds and ends, when a young man standing next to me getting a box of chicken wings started talking to me. It came up that he had been in the service, so I thanked him. Later we ended up in the same checkout lane and he was 8 dollars short, I'm sure he could have come up with the money, but I gave the cashier a 10 spot before he could do or say a word. He looked at me and I said, yes, me again. I said, don't say a word, thanks again and enjoy your day. We both got the message and I felt like a million bucks. Made my day!!!!!!

As a Marine veteran, I know not everyone understands the meaning and by no means am I taking a stand one way or another. I have reminded a few who have sought explanation or offered to those who were so far off from reality. I have heard MANY people thank me for my service. The truth is I served, that is it.

Armed forces day for the active (celebrate)
Veterans day for those that served (celebrate)
Memorial day for the ones who REALLY sacrificed (pause, observe, remember)

In closing, I never served and for that I feel I still owe all that did for whatever reason a thank you. No one in the service knows when they will be called upon to do what I decided not to do. Sometimes I feel I might have just been chicken ****. I do feel bad for that, truly. As the song goes, all gave some and some gave all...... so those who came back, didn't necessarily know they were and that's still huge in my book. Maybe that's why I do for them whenever I get the opportunity, guilt.

Hey-o, serving is only part of the picture, albeit an important part. We needed American supporters behind us to enable us to do what we did. To the manufactures who made our vehicles, munitions and everything else that we used to do our job let me say “thank you”. You gave us the tools we used to do our jobs and take care of our families, to say the least. To all farmers, ranchers, distributors, etc., I again say “thank you”. If not for you, we would’ve starved, alongside our families. To all in the medical, pharmaceutical, supplies, etc., I say “thank you”. If not for you, we probably wouldn’t have been healthy enough to do our jobs or have been healed when injured, among other things. To all police officers, firemen, EMTs and other first responders, I say “thank you”. You kept us and our families safe while we trained to fight or while we were away from home. To all teachers, ministers, mentors and other upstanding American citizens, I say “thank you”. If not for you, we would not have been educated or inspired, to say the least, to do what we stepped up to do. We served and we were able to do so because of your support and your love of our mutual nation. I say “thanks” to all people who live in America and want to be good citizens and make our nation better. Too many people in the world have nothing to look forward to and nothing worth willing to die for in their own countries. What we have here is the most special (even though still flawed) society ever formed. It is delicate and much hated by outsiders. Our survival is dependent on all of our America-loving and supporting people. I am sure, sir that you are counted in this number. God bless you and the USA!
