Coronet lit up, short drive, would not spin on restart. Battery 10 years old. AGM or conventional?

I have had great luck with AGM batteries
I've had a couple AGM Optima's (red top) last one in my truck
(99 Dakota 4x4) was 14 years old before it took a ****
it was org. in my golf cart, for like 10 years
before I sold the cart & I swapped out the shitty lead acid battery
from my Dakota to the Yamaha Golf cart,
for the Optima, it was a great decision IMO

I have a new Optima (red top) in my Dakota now too

I had another Optima (yellow top) in my 85 Toyota 4x4,
it lasted the 10+ years I owned the truck, when I sold it

I also have 2 (yellow tops) in my
02 F-350 7.3ltr PS Diesel Dually 4x4
it goes thru batteries like crazy, so far so good
going on about 5 years now, no issues
that was about as long as the Interstates would last

when the lead acid battery from MoPar in my RR dies
(amazingly it's almost 12 years old now (Dec. 2007), got it at the local Dodge dealership,
when they had a clearance sale, like $50, when changing ownership, second time around)

it will be replaced by an Optima yellow top deep cycle too...

I'm convinced they are superior
& last far longer
with no maintenance or leakage/mess
& you can mount it, in pretty much anywhere
smaller/more compact & still lots of cranking amps & amp storage
they ain't cheap ($214 from Summit)
but better (& ultimately cheaper) last longer,
than buying 2 (or 3) decent quality messy/lead acid batteries
(I use to by Interstates, had decent luck with them) over that same time frame

snow & cold or extreme heat
seems to kill lead acid batteries, pretty quickly

In my experiences, your experience may vary

good luck in what ever you decide

It's coming up on time to replace the one in the wife's 2012 Charger R/T.
Battery is in the spare tire well, of course. Always bugged me, them doing that
with a "conventional" battery.
Stupid replacement batteries are $200+ anyways, makes me think about Optima
except I keep reading recently that quality has gone downhill over there?

10 years on a lead-acid battery and you drove the car away from your garage?
Boy, you sure got your money out of that battery!

I was bragging about the 09 Challenger having the original battery. As a result, Karma got me within 30 minutes.

When i bought my diesel pickup from the owner of a shop my friend worked, it came with two red top optimas. When it started exhibiting starting trouble, my friend warrenteed both, she said that her bosses truck (the one i bought) seemed to go thru batteries every two or three years, and the optima warrantee covered them.
When they started showing trouble again, i checked to see if they were still under warrantee, they were 8 1/2 years old. Not bad! Turns out one will still hold a charge at 9yrs, the other was draining the system.
However, when i found the price for two new red tops was over $500, i went with two interstates from costco for under $200.
My opel, on the other hand has a rediculously impossible to access battery , when the red top in it goes belly up, its getting a new red top, the 62 has a new interstate.
If the interstates last longer than half as long as the red top, i guess i made a good choice.
If you buy a agm, get tbe right charger for it.

You have an Opel? Jesus Chrysler. Need pictures. Kadett or 2 seater. What kind of charger, I’ve heard this before.

AGM batteries are great. They require a different kind of charger/maintainer. Battery Tender is what I’ve got for mine. Also, if an AGM battery goes dead, you’ll need a regular battery to help get it going on a charger.

I just use a $30 special from horror freight with a normal/agm selector switch.@Dennis H

Those gah dawful flames are going to be GONE, before it gets out of the garage again.

AGM, both in the old car and in the new car. I just purchased an Interstate battery for my newer car and it is AGM too.......

AAA here. AGM won’t fit. Too wide and high. Didn’t have time to shop. Fucked up back, can’t do the job myself. Thanks for advice. Modern cars will get AGM’s. Going down the Coast Monday to meet up with ckessel. Linda twisting my arm to take a modern car. No way.

Jesus Christ! How'd you get that BBC in there????? What kind of brakes ????

He had an AGM on the truck that fit but it was smaller and did not fit exactly in the tray.

That is a YUGE battery! I bet it could start the space shuttle if needed, lol!

@zyzzyzx, it's an old tube chassis A/MP car, straight front axle, fourlink, very narrrow 9", firewall moved back a foot and a half, aluminum dash. Ran mid-high 8 quarters, now a street strip car with a giant radiator from a dually pickup, set at an angle (no kidding.) Gonna replace the current 454 with a blueprint 540, wanted a 632, but a tall deck wont fit without a new custom set of headers.
Edit : i forgot. Jfz discs all around.

Interstate here. Good battery - 1000 cc. Even my HOA can’t complain about that!
