Hi guy's, Does anyone know if Edelbrock came out with a tuning chart or jet chart for these carburetors yet, I'm having a little surging issue in 2nd gear on my 69 Superbee 4 speed
when going up a slight incline that I'm sure indicates a lean condition. Cruise seems okay so I'm thinking 4 to 8 % richer on the power mode but I'm not into the secondary yet when the slight surging condition happens. Any opinions on what to do? Edelbrock tech last year mentioned to go from .101 jets to .104 and rods from .070 x .037 to .073 x .042 or .047 but that was if you have a lean condition on both cruise and power modes. Any suggestions? Thank you! Dave

i'm currently running 3 carters on my cars. for me most of my surging issues have been timing related.

Same here. More noticeable with a manual tranny too.

Yep, would check timing also, sounds as to much vacuum advance.
Change the vacuum from manifold to ported, if its better on low throttle then you have to much vacuum advance. With an auto box, the convertor will absorb some of the pulsing, a 4 speed not.

just some food for thought here. I was out in my '65 coronet a little bit ago that has the edelbrock ch28 with two 600's. this is a pretty reliable trouble free set-up and has become my favorite of the two cars I have to go places in. today the idle is rougher than normal, but main metering (cruise) seems fine. checked the timing and it's ok, but the mixture screws wouldn't adjust very well. i'm thinking winter blend fuel issues. been thru this before. last time the car was out the air temps were 50's; today 80. i'll pull the tops off the carbs just to make sure the idle jets are good but I know winter blend fuel on warmer days isn't always a good mix. in fact in the edelbrock manuals that comes with the carbs they caution about trying to set idle mixture with winter blends. I do believe this issue could give some false "feelings" in the way an engine is running.

Good comments guy's, yep too much timing would cause slight surge been there done that. The car ran great on the 15 mile journey then came home and changed the spring from orange to pink then an hour later took the same route and no surging in the same part of incline but car was starting to get hotter not overheat just hotter from driving it more and longer traffic lights. I did stop for gas and then the old 5-10 second cranking when finally starts runs like ****! I get home let things cool down about a couple hours then proceed to remove carb. and my new 3/8 inch 4 hole carb. heat spacer made out of phenolic. Well come to find out the spacer is now warped and not only that but one plug is now fouled from possibly the intake bolt in that cylinder did not hold it's 25 ft pound of torque it was a 1/4 turn from 25. This is the second time in 5 years that an phenolic spacer has warped on me, I believe that you can not put a 4 hole phenolic spacer on a dual plane manifold with out having it warped due to no support under the spacer from the intake surface. Why my bolts keep on not holding it's torque of 25 ft. pounds and I do have the Mopar dual plane aluminum manifold is strange to me cause this is not the first time for this! My thoughts are the bolts are 3/8 - 1/2 shorter than the factory bolts so I did order new intake bolts the other day so I will switch them out. Thanks again and sorry for the long read I'm just venting and pissed! Dave

if this is a big block intake bolt torque spec is 35lbs with grade 8 bolts. I use the edelbrock fiber insulator gasket without issue.
