Time to hit the Track.

Bob, Here's a few pictures you should like. I did this GTX back in 2007. We took it to a car show today, 300+ cars, the old girl brought home best of show. This is what you have to look forward to.

And then the army shows up..lol That Ma Deuce sitting on the trailer sure brings back memories of a long time ago...

I wish he would put the correct air cleaner back on it... something to do with orange.
Malex, Congrats on the show award, I'd have to agree. That is a sweet ride and I also agree the air cleaner is a bit too shiny.

Mike, on the collector question. Went to body shop today to check progress, owner runs a Dart in 9.80’s, 3 runs last year at Norwalk(Summit) on sale day; 2-9.80 w/o extension,9.70 with. He still runs them but also agrees only help sometimes. Jeff

Mike, if I may I would like to add my thoughts/experience too oldbee's comments. I ran extensions on my GTX many years ago and it seemed to help the bottom end somewhat. I changed to Hedman Husler race headers and now it 60 fts. better. Was it the header change, I don't know!

That's good enough for me Oldbee. So where I'm at now is that if this steel hood doesn't slow me down I'm going to be too fast, If I have room to improve I will certainly add extensions.
Last weekend my first pass of the year, right off the trailer was a 9.97. I took some timing out of it and ran 10.04's, 10.06's all day. I figured I was running at about 33 to 34 degrees total. Tonight I separated my plug wire and got a good steady light and realized I was running at 30 degrees total. I'm back at 36 now and the steel hood. Not sure what's coming next pass..

So not sure if it was GTXracer, 69GTX or LW who recently asked about the rear Super Tricks. Anyways, that's been on my mind.. And as you could have guessed...

I had this little tire machine that I modified with a tele post and today it was time to try it out.
The draglites coming off were 15X12's and the Super Tricks going on are 10's.

Super Trick going together, lots of baby powder floating around. Still 7/32" in the wear holes so what the hell, get them on.

So here's the new look, 4 lbs less rotating weight with the Super Tricks.

And my hood air pan in the finished state complete with air bell seal.

Hemi hood and Super Tricks. The plan is complete.

Just damn sweet. Good luck on the next run. Still say 10.2 all day long.

Did you happen to weigh the tire wheel combo, before and after? Might be less rotating mass, might make you quicker.

Each wheel ended up being 2 lbs lighter. I'm 4 lbs lighter overall switching to Super Tricks, so there will be some increase. The heavier hood weight will eat that up.
I think it's going to come down to which hood performs better, I'm real interested to find out.
Draglite-tire-tube-screws were 50 lbs each
SuperTrick-tire-tube-screws were 48 lbs each.

The problem that I can see coming from all of this is that last time out I was running 10.04 to 10.06's consistently when going rounds and that was running at 30 degrees total advance. I checked my dyno sheets last night and I didn't even make a pull at 30 degrees, but the difference between 32 and 36 degrees total advance on my motor was 30HP and 40TQ. Remember that I had pulled the timing back after my first pass to slow down because I went into the 9's ).

So the new problem I see coming is that if the steel hood & hemi scoop doesn't slow the car down and the air is halfway decent I'll be into the 9's again. Anyone have any experience with weight boxes?

I've run mine down to 28. Barely slowed it. Normally run 32. 34 didn't pick it up any appreciatable amount.

Great job on the new best.. don't forget to post in the 9 second club

Yep, different engines, heads combos.

Thanks! I will do that. The only thing I did from last year was switch from leafs to ladders.

Had my timing mistakenly set at 26 one time. The bump to 36 was over 4/10ths. Never messed with after that.

Sounds like timing may be the easiest way to slow your car. Then when the air isn't so good just bump it back. One of the guys I raced with did that. He made lines on his dist. base and a mark on his block for a pointer with a engraver.

Wooks, I had that same problem when I first started racing. I was running at 24 degrees. Timing light was defective. I checked my old time slips, June 11th, 2017, I went from running 11.3's and 4's to 10.7's and 8's.

LOL, I got the marks on the block, distributor too. I hope to leave the timing at 36 where it works best but pulling timing is the quick fix for sure. Pulling back the timing shows up on the 60'.

Never thought four degrees would make that much difference. That's some interesting data.
----
That was the difference on my combo. 505 with edelbrock victor heads according to the dyno sheets. Dyno time is expensive but this is one of those instances where the data is good to reflect on.

Looks great Mike. I have always been partial too Super Tricks, been on my GTX since the mid 70's. Best of luck!
