1965 Satellite

Well it’s here, car runs amazing. Starts up as soon as you bump the key all the electronics on the car work great...here’s the but.
The bottoms of both fenders is bad, the drivers is completely shot, to the point that it doesn’t even attach to the body. The pass isn’t as bad. There are three holes in one spot of the rocker, and one small spot of rust about the size of a dime in the firewall by the ballast. Still great for an early B Body that I only have 6200.00 into after shipping and title work. But I’m disappointed the seller hid these small issues.

Also all the trim that was in the trunk, ya it’s the interior chrome window trim and it’s all pitted and rusted very badly. He forgot to mention that also

And the work begins.

Ya I’m just a little pissed is all, he didn’t tell me about the other stuff. Look I know it’s buyer beware but he seemed like a square shooter. Still a nice car but man that interior window chrome sucks!!! No repops of that

Mine was very rusted so, I'm painting it. I'm doing that along with the dash to match the top half of the exterior. My car will be two tone. The cost to rechrome was too great to consider.

I had a '65 Belvedere II that was that way also. Carlisle is only a month away, and not too far from you, so you may find some replacement trim there ? If attending, please sign up with FBBO as your Club affiliation, and stop by the Tent to say hello, Thanks...

That is maddening. You just never know. I've had good fortune with long distance, over the phone purchases in all cases but one.

Bought a 62 Savoy and spent a lot of time talking with the seller about rust. When the car arrived I was relieved to see the seller had accurately described the rust in the floors, quarters, front fenders, etc. as we'd talked. He neglected to mention the top of the trunk lid had holes in it you could stick your thumb in. Kind of hard to miss that. In retrospect, his pictures had been carefully selected. Of course 62 trunk lids are extremely tough to find without rust.

You'll be ok. Rockers will patch up fine and once the front fender is off if it's just the lower portion that's bad you can rebuild them. They do sell a lower patch panel for those, although they require some work to get them to fit right. If the fender turns out to be shot, replacements are a bit tough to find but can still be bought.

As mentioned, blast and paint the interior trim. There's a chrome like spray paint that doesn't look too bad.

Another option is to have them powder coated. There are a couple different chrome look powders on the market. Sherwin Williams makes one that looks great, although they recommend a clear top coat for durability and the clear coat changes the appearance some. This stuff was made for store fixtures, which are cleaned regularly, hence the clear coat. There may be better ones out now. I've been away from it since retiring 4 years ago.

We'd done some base coat only for a few walk in customers and cautioned them to only use inside and don't wipe down with cleaning chemicals. So far we've not had anyone upset.

Have fun with the Satellite!

you all know what the name for the man who advertises used cars accurately....

junkyard owner

I feel your pain, I think anyone that has dealt with the old car hobby finds a few folks who while will not divulge, does not lie either. You just did not ask the right questions....lol

Always price with the expectation of 50% on arrival...fewer disappoints that way.

Killer Chrome by Alsa I think is the spray can chrome Peabody is referring

Don’t get me wrong that little bit of rust isn’t bad for a 65 but I just wish he had told me the full story. The car is a legit 64000 mile car with 95% of the original paint still on it.

Good luck with the engine and trans transplant. Looks like a good car to start with. I'm currently in the throws of putting a 1970 era 727 in my 65 Dodge Coronet 500. My brother tried a bunch of things, to get the original 727 working properly but we finally determined that something in the valve body must not be functioning properly. He had sold me the 1970, 727 several years ago because he suspected the original trans might not work properly. I'm still trying gather all the parts for the switch. I need to either put in a reverse manual body or I have to get a different kickdown for it. Also need a different rear trans mount, shifter cable, speedo cable, gear and housing. Hopefully that's what I all I need. I ran across A&A transmission website and I talked to a guy there today. He new everything I needed and it sounds like they have it all.

I'm about 125 mile S S/E of you...I have some 65 hardtop stuff here that isn't great but also isn't terrible...I know I have some of the interior chrome that may be better than what you have...
It took me 10 years to find everything I needed for mine...but I'm cheaper than most...
I currently have a 65 Bel II 4 door here that I am parting out...it may have a few small pieces depending on what you may need...if nothing else it may have patch panels that would help fix your fenders...your call...
P/m me when you get to that point...

I’ve sent a couple Messages let me know if your getting them please

I think it's a good buy. If you wait a little and study up as well as asking around a lot of the stuff you need may fall out of the sky. there is plenty of good parts around and good luck.

I ended up paying 5700 for the car and 575 to ship it to me. So I have 6275.00 into it
