Good morning,

I need to replace the piece on the body that the door hinges bolt to. The vehicle is a 1970 Road Runner and that piece is rusted to the point I am very careful opening the door. For some reason AMD does not manufacture that part although they do for the E bodies. The alternatives I have found are from Golden Star and Sherman. Below are links to both:

Golden Star, available through Jegs: https://www.jegs.com/i/Golden-Star/189/PL08-68R/10002/-1

Sherman, available through Summit: https://www.summitracing.com/int/pa...70/make/plymouth/model/roadrunner?prefilter=1

The lead time is not as much of an issue as fit and quality.

If anyone has used either of these any opinion is useful as this is my first time doing a rebuild of this extent. The car needs a lot of work but by the time I locate another body it will likely need much of the metal anyway on top of the initial cost for the body and shipping it to the Caribbean. I am in St. Croix US Virgin Islands so that is another issue, there are not other cars for me to look at nor are there many people with experience with these.
Best regards,
Dave

I have not used either part. I've heard of Sherman before, but not Golden Star. Have you considered getting a rust-free part cut out of an original car? You can check the "parting out" section on this websitre and find what you need....guaranteed to be a perfect fit.

Go find a OEM donor piece then those cheap crude replacement parts
that will let you down and test your metal skills to install.
plenty of b body cars that will have that part
even 4 doors.
any pics of the rust?

That is the route I am going to go. I think I have one located. No pictures of the rust at the moment but I can snap one tomorrow.

depending on how bad it is
it is not hard to splice a patch in behind the brace that runs down the middle
or just replace the whole thing.
I had to do both sides, patched up one and replaced the other
the extraction takes up the most time

Hi Flypaper,
Here are some pics of the rust. as you can see, the passenger side is quite bad. I have the inner AMD panel. The driver's side is not as bad but I might go with a replacement one there also as it does have a bit of bubbling and some issues down low. I have to break loose the lower section regardless as the rockers need replacing on both sides.
You can see why I am careful opening the right (passenger) side door.

at that point I would just replace the whole thing
seeing that you are also busting out the rockers
mine were more rusted on the firewall side.

Hello, I have these panels from a 1968 Plymouth B Body. They are still attached to a cut off section I have. The section is the firewall, upper cowl, lower cowl and both hinge posts. I was considering drilling spot welds to separate each panel. I've tried selling the whole section at swap meets but most people who were interested either didn't have a truck to haul it or too lazy to deal with it. I can provide pics.
