And, having a good time doing it!

My youngest son came over yesterday, in tow his two kids. Boy 10 years old, girl 6, both hell on wheels, two of my 10 grandkids.
Gary, my son, started making noises about going for a ride in my 64 Plymouth. He had rode in it once, the kids never. Asked the boy if he wanted to...a long-winded nooo. He changed his mind, after Gary's daughter said heck yeah.
Got a real pleasant surprise, along the way, too. Using his fancy phone, Gary filmed it, while I pulled the 64 out of the shop. Dang thing sounds pretty good! Sounds different, in the car, not nearly the same.
Anyway, on the driveway, they all piled in. Hehe, the boy asked a couple times 'where's the seat belt?' You don't get one! Off we go, only paved country roads, where we are.
Didn't take too long, when it was 'goose it time'. Big grins from those kids! Backing down, shouts from that rear seat...more, more, do it again. (Think they liked it.)
Grand daughter saying she wants one, when she grows up. Grand son...saying he wants 'this' one, when he grows up.

I would definitely install seat belts in the back as I’m sure those littles will want more rides.

Did exactly the same yesterday, took the daughter out for her 16th birthday with her new boyfriend, she said "can we burn some rubber" boyfriend said, "What? " , had to do 3 more, he knows now what he has to do to keep the daughter happy :)

You know, I thought about it. Decided no, have mixed feelings about all the blasted laws.
On the other hand, my son is kinda like me...VERY protective, when it comes to the little ones. So, when they are in the car, pretty much 'safe' driving time. Let them enjoy the rumble, no push buttons (console shift), and the windows down AC.
Of course, some of you will dis-agree, even me to a point. But, I'm also the ex-truck driver, who saw another driver burn alive...because of his seat belt.

Now...why did I know I'd get red Xed. Only comment I'll make on it...

Total safety first, for those kids. Not much traffic here, on the country roads, and the kids won't be in the car that much, anyway. Makes a big difference what part of the country you are located in, too.
Seat belts. I grew up, in the days of no seat belts, and lived to tell about it! People, including kids, get hurt in cars by stupid people, doing stupid things behind the steering wheel.
Seat belts save lives! Sometimes. Pros and cons on it. Could go on, and on...but won't.

I don't doubt your a safe driver and in control of your vehicle. The problem isn't you, its other idiot drivers or circumstances beyond your control.
Regardless of were you live, what kind of road condition or the kids won't be driving that much in the car, anything can happen. You stop short those little ones can fly over the front seat.
I had a guy tee bone me back in 1970. His little son was in the back seat not seat belted. That kid flew over the front seat and went face first into the dashboard.
Thats all I'm saying and why I disagreed with you.

I rarely speak up on another parties post that I dont agree with - but on seat belts with any human beings in the car - especially little kids - I think seat belts are a must have. The do save lives. Been proven over and over and over again. Pls be careful with those young unknowing lives in your car bro.....

How did I ever survive my childhood, lying up in the package tray on long road trips.

I know, I feel the same. However, our classics were all on the same playing field back then, the number of cars on the road far less, and the traffic moved much slower.

And the fact that we didn't know any better. But we do now. Seat belts save lives.

Miller; I understand your hesitancy to put belts in your 64 and how your experiences are affecting your decision, especially the one about the accident you witnessed.
I was a L/E Officer in the 60s and 70s, a time when some cars had belts and some people used them. Having rolled up on many head-on accidents, I can tell you that the carnage from people being impaled on those old skinny steering columns or being thrown through, or partially through a windshield, is a grizzly thing. Two lane country roads were the worst, especially if there were irrigation ditches next to the road. As was said, it's not you you have to worry about. It's the drunk or distracted person barreling down the road that loses concentration for a moment and drifts into your lane.
I'm not trying to tell you what you should do. I'm only asking that you consider another viewpoint...

Add in the fact that 8 out of 10 people are driving while playing with their cell phone... Seat belts definitely save lives.

Thanks for those comments, Dave. Yes, agree at seeing other viewpoints. I have seen my share of results from bad driving, especially while truck driving. A real education. Nothing like you've no doubt seen, but more than I wanted.
(That driver who burned...I stood there and watched, beside a state trooper. Between the driver's screams, he was asking someone to shoot him. Trooper said he couldn't, I got pissed, and left. All hard lessons!)

Good comments from all of you, and much appreciated! Gotta teach those kids rights, and wrongs.

Im retired from 39 years in trucking. Like all truckers, I’ve seen my share. How about this guy? Did he make it?

He did. He had his seat belt on.
