I've tried this twice and ultimately it's worked out. But both times, the service reps are rude and seem to try to find ways to deny the request.

For example, today I found an item on Walmart.com for a price a lot less than Summit. So I called and said I found a better price at Walmart.com. The rep asked for the Walmart item number. I gave it to him. Long pause... then "can I put you on hold?" Comes back and says yeah, I can match that price. I said "match?" Your policy says it will "Beat" any price. He said, semantics in a rude tone followed by, buddy! are we going to do this or not? In the end, he ended up giving it to me for $1.00 dollar less.

As I recall, this was the a similar experience I had last time I tried this. So what is it? If it is company policy, why do they act so cranky and rude about it? And more importantly, why do I put up with this to save a buck?

Anyone else have a similar experience?

why do I put up with this to save a buck

Advertising is supposed to work out for them, not you, or both of you, just them. You are supposed to get a warm, fuzzy feeling and buy from them when you see such reassurances, not call them out on it. Anyway, nice job. Ben Franklin would be proud of you, lol.

I had to look. Summits price guarantee says BEAT. I guess by how much is the big question.

That's a BS offer unless they say we'll beat by some percent. MO.

My opinion is you should have bought it from Walmart - why go thru the hassle with Summit if they're going to act like that?

You know, I had the same thought, but after re-examining my motives, the reason why I wanted to buy from Summit at the Walmart price is because the AutoMeter mail-in-rebate excludes Walmart. Just trying to have my cake and eat it too.

I have done the beat a price thing with summit. They beat it by a dollar. Thats all. Summit pissed me off when I spent well over 1500 bucks online. They did not give any summit bucks. Says I have to do in store purchases for summit bucks.

They were still using / giving summit bucks in march for online orders.

They didnt give me squat..
I called them they said its because I purchased online. Soo not sure whats up.

I'm not debating with you cause I know it happened - But I've never been in one of their stores. Many purchases online - they were my go to source. But IIRC I always got Bucks from them - often a tee shirt or a hat or something too. You should have asked to talk to a Super.

We all price shop, nothing wrong with that.
You find a better deal elsewhere? Great, buy it from whoever has the best price.
I don't see the part where you felt the need to go back to Summit after finding a better deal
afterwards, though. You must like doing the actual buying from them or something?

Honestly, I wish businesses that throw out that "we'll beat anyone else's offer" nonsense.
That's old, tired, busted advertising gimmickry.

Price is one thing - service is quite another and in my older years, I find I want hassle-free as
much as anything else in my dealings with companies. I'm comfortable buying from some companies
because I've had a history of good service from them and that oftentimes will override another
companies' slightly better price on this or that particular part.

That said, I've never felt the need to challenge some gimmicky "we'll beat anyones' price" advertising.
That crap never swayed my decision making process to begin with, so what's the point?
Just to say "gotcha!"??
Is it really worth a buck or two saved to make that poor slob taking orders on the phone uncomfortable?
He didn't write that policy and he doesn't own the company; he's just gotta deal with it.

You think not getting a price-beat deal at Summit is bad,....try ordering International, when the projected delivery date is 6 weeks more than domestic delivery. And this is because ALL International orders are compiled and sent from the Ohio store....so they actually wait for parts to be shipped from the other stores...by truck...and only when the truck is full and ready to depart. That is the only reason...doesn't matter if the item is available at all the other stores. And they won't speed up any inter-store transfers of stock to get an order out faster. :mob:

My experience is summit has the lowest price 99% of the time, add in free shipping and I save a ton.

I bought my ACC carpet and floormats thru summit, saved me hundreds, and that was before free shipping.

I typically wait until I have over $99 of parts, their free shipping threshold, then order.
Wait for their 'always' sales and save even more, especially on larger purchases.

Plus the returns are simple and most of the time free, unless you wait too long.

One of my led shoplights died, just inside the year warranty, which I didn't know about, they sent me a new one without me having to return the bad one.

Believe it or not, they've done that to me, and I could never figure out why, especially cuz i'm in Ohio. No waiting for six weeks tho.

@moparedtn I agree, if you are relatively happy, why mess with it?

I was curious and went on summit site. If you go to where it says savings central and click that then go to summit bucks. Apparently they only give summit bucks for **** thats in that list. And in that list was nothing but 3 items I could use. Very little on the list for Mopar.
