440 ci, .030 over. presently running a 484/284 cam. runs good an strong but I would like to change the cam for something more streetable with similar performance when I push the go fast pedal. I have tuned this car to the max to make this cam work and have drive it on a 1200 mile road trip with no issues, just looking for a smoother idle and max performance. Any recommendations?

oh running a 727 auto with 2500-2800 stall converter, was thinking about dropping that back to a 2100-2500 stall, but would prefer not to change that if i can.

Man, that is such a SWEET cam profile!
If I recall correctly, that is the old school "street Hemi grind"...
I personally would contact "Mr. 6 pack" Bob Karakashian and tell him what you have and what your goals are. I'm sure others can give good advice.
I'm running what I am as sure as I can be without taking measurements or some other way of knowing (the purple stripe cam came in the engine when I got the car) the 292°/.509 purple stripe cam, the "biggest" hydraulic cam that Direct Connection offered. With stock 452 heads, TTi 1&7/8" headers, and the Edelbrock/Chrysler aluminum 6bbl intake, and a standard transmission behind it, it pulls hard, butt dyno says to 6k RPM easily, and with open cutouts sounds AMAZING!

I'm running the Summit 6401 Duration 298/303, Lift .466/.488 and it has great street manners. 440, .040 over, 1.5 adjustable rockers, 727, stock converter with 3.23 out back.

What rocker ratio and rear gears?

The rockers are stock 440, wish i could tell you the ratio, the rear gears are 3:23.

thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it.

fact is i like the cam but the low vacuum and slight bogging is my issues. I am looking at an AVS2 800 carb and firecore distributor first, then on to the cam if necessary.

Running the 484 cam myself and there's nothing radical or "not street friendly" about it.
Pretty mild actually. Yes, it's supposedly the factory street hemi cam.
I get about 11-12Hg vacuum from it. Just a bit of rumpety at idle.
If it's degreed in properly, should be a happy cam in a 440.
This is mine:

Let me know how you like the AVS2. I've been eyeing one of those myself.

If I recall, I get about 11-12 mm Hg vacuum at idle.
Car came with manual brakes and steering. I can see a day when I go to power steering, but I really don't understand why manual brakes are a problem for anyone. I'm going to install a killer Wilwood disc brake system soon, 12.88 up front and I've decided to go with the 12.19 rears, and just find some 15" wheels that fit for the occasional track day. I'm keeping the brake system manual, but switching to a Wilwood master cylinder as part of the system. Most of the time the Roadrunner will be wearing the 17" aluminum Rallye wheels.
Anyway, vacuum for power brakes isn't an issue for me.

If your looking for a smoother idle and max performance, Mr. 6 pack cam is my recommendation Bob Karakashian is one of the best for your application.
I'm running this cam with 2500 stall 3.23 rear gear and street tires...

Try a set of rhoades lifters and keep the cam. I have rhoades lifters riding on a summit 6401 and they make a huge difference. I think the old school grinds work better with rhoades lifters anyway, the tapping sound is louder at idle, but I read that the rhoades are really noisey with more modern cam profiles, like the XE line.
The rhoades don't cost a lot of money, and its much easier swapping just lifters than a cam and lifters. Just be initially cautious for detonation until 3000rpm after the install, (depending on your CR), your cam has a narrow LSA.
