Replacing pinion seal on 8.75 rear end

You don’t by chance have the e-brake on?

Haha no e brake. What’s the worst thing that could happen if I run it when it’s not torqued to 240? Everything seems tight and snug in there. Sorry not a rear diff expert might be a dumb question

On the pictures it seems the yoke is bottoming out against the pinion bearing inner race.
If that does not change any bearing preload, which how i understand is not the case on the 41 en 42 cases, you can just tighten it as good as it gets.
Using some thread locking compound as you go.
After putting some miles on it you can check if it is still tight.

….I put some loctite on it last night and got it reasonably snug......

What is "reasonably snug"? Did you just run the nut down tight with 12" ratchet or did you put the hurt to it with a 24" breaker bar? What Loctite did you use?
If you're satisfied you're tight enough, you might paint mark the nut to the pinion position for visual reference of loosening.

Red loctite. I used a breaker bar. I would tighten it a little then check the forward/backward play and ease of rotation for the yoke. Then it got tight and I backed it off slightly.

I think my plan of attack is going to be put it on the ground, drive it around the neighborhood a couple times and bring it back and see if anything changed. I just pretty much redid the entire underside of the car so I’m wanting to check torque values on everything and bleed the brakes anyway. I’ll mark the pinion nut with a marker and see what happens

Thanks for the advice guys, I’ll keep you posted
