Anyone used the Pertronix igitor kit think it’s 1381A. Have a 65 383 in my 68 Roadrunner it’s a rebuilt points distibator ;having trouble with car breaking up misfires under load drivable but drives like a 6 cyl thought I try that first with a new set wires and go from there thanks

I have used a pertronix for 7yrs now, { same one } I have had it in two different distributors.
Changed the cap and rotor once, If you go that route use the coil they recommend or at least one with the ohm rate they want.
My set is the old pertronix 1 or 2

check the Lobes on the distributor first.
spin it over with the cap off carefully observing the points movement action.
if Any of those lobes are worn it wont hit right and after so many miles you can believe they are worn.
also, you can keep a set of Blue Streak points and a flathead screwdriver in the glovebox as an emergency backup incase the pertronix takes a dump.
doesnt happen often, but i have had bad ones before.

the wires wouldnt hurt and of course how old is the coil itself?

If you go Pertronix, you may as well get their " flamethrower" 40,000 volt coil too. Not very expensive, and you can eliminate the ballast resistor. It is built into the coil..........MO

Agree but can also be the upper shaft is bent same procedure and take the rotor off and look at the round part to see if it has any wobble. Petronix wont fix that. They are a great system also. Sounds like the condenser is going or you have weak points spring pressure. The new stuff sucks for sure. Look for old stock from 80's back for it if possible.

Old school method for points bounce. Cut a small piece of vacuum hose and wedge it against the movable arm. That's how we did it in the 60's.
I agree with Halifaxhops above. ^^^. And I use the Petronix system in my cars.

Thanks coil is new already bought a rebuilt distributor from Napa car runs motor seems to be firing on all 8 sounds good at idle ; runs like crap almost bucking at times going through the gears low RPM car is fine I’ll try another condenser ;just thought I’d try to get rid of the points without changing the whole look under hood thanks for the input Gregg

Look for spark plug wires arcing. Check underhood idling in the dark. I had a duster do exactly as you described and it was spark plug wires arcing.

Check the curve on the distributor, prob wrong. The remanufactured are kind of set in the middle so they cover many years/applications.
