Hello everybody. My name is Eric. Thank you all for the warm welcomes in the welcome wagon.

I’m currently gathering information on my pending restoration of my 1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite convertible. Planing on a GTX tribute.

What I’m looking for is Day 2 restoration ideas.

Here’s my thought. Guy orders a 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertible brand new.

While waiting for his new car to arrive he buys a PILE of parts from his local speed shop.

Wheels, tires, headers, intake, carburetor, valve covers, air cleaner, tach, etc.

Nothing to tacky or street freakish. Lol.

A correct looking restoration with some period correct speed parts thrown in.

I’d be interested in seeing what others have done.

Thanks. Eric.

I was always a fan of vintage Sun gauges, especially the 1 5/8" blue lines, (although they are pricey). Or, even a Dixco Don Garlits tach.

Yeah. Thank you. Yes. Ideas like that.

Maybe some torque thrusts and redlines.

Some “verging on gaudy” traction bars. That we now know never worked but we did them anyways. Lol

MCACN show in Chicago has a day2 class....Search the pictures on their website....It is a very popular and cool group

Google is your friend for vintage ads for day 2 equipment. Period hot rodding magazine main articles too...

I also ran a Grant steering wheel with the wood inlays. I stained the wood to match the fake woodgrain on the dash and console.

Prorac 1, looks like you named everything we did back in the 60's.You are right on the money.
For Old School items,Speedway Motors has allot to look at. You may even want to look up Honest Charlies for the 60's dress-up parts. I was always a fan(still am) of the Day 2 cars.Even the magazine writers such as Muscle Car Review are favoring the Day 2 cars.
You may want to think about "Name Brand" items that may not be available new anymore.

Eric,
From having been exposed to that era directly, I think back and almost everyone had an 8 Track cassette hung under dash. I know that the Chrysler tach offered over the parts counter was popular as well for the interior of the car. The aftermarket gauges were out there as well. Nice quality originals are out there and bring strong dollars. Be careful as some of the items were released later on and have slight variations from the originals.

Keystones and Torque Thrust mags were popular as well as the Glass Packs. As others have said, look back to the old issues of the magazines back in the day.

I like the 'day 2' look as well, it's more the way I personally remember these cars from back in the day. However you do it, have fun with it! That was the point of it..some personal style, some extra performance, and just good times....

If you really want to blow people away find a set of Appliance or Superior Wheels.

day 2 fan here....... aluminum slots or torque thrusts are the ****.......... and cherry bombs.... lol

Those Thrush side pipes had cherry bombs in them. Well, they were resonators anyway...

Also you must have a header leak. and at least one mismatched plug wire.
Those Cherry Bombs have to be directly under the floor pans with no tail pipes to get the true effect.
Colored fur /angle hair in the back deck with a pair of wedge mount stereo speakers. Wires fished under the sill plate to a under dash 8 track that keeps tipping on side screws that wont stay tight.
