I have a friend of my dads that has a Mopar dream field. several GTX 68,69,70. Has a 340 6pack cuda. 2 69 super bee's. and many more! even has a 69 dodge charger racecar that my dad built in the early 80's car has not moved in 31 years. every time i ask about any of them he says I'm gonna fix them one day. I keep telling him he needs to sell them now because when something happens to him his son will sell them for scrap. He also has a lot of ford crap too. I just don't understand. Next time I'm up that way I'll stop and take some pictures.
Who else knows someone like this?

I've run across a lot of "I'm gonna" guys all my life. It took me 5 trips to the house where I bought my 68 Charger. Finally the last time I went I waved a wad of hundred dollar bills at the owner saying "I'll give you this cash for that car right now"... moments later I had the pink in hand and keys in my pocket. I guess the trick is to be at the right place at the right time with a wad of cash in your pocket. You'll be amazed at the change in perspective when you wave some green under their noses.. Be persistent, it's worked for me. Remember, green trumps rust most every time, money talks brother.

There is a 1971 Charger R/T 440 2 miles from my house rotting into the ground. The owner is "one of those guys". I try not to think about it-makes me sad.

Yep, 40 years ago a guy I know had 2 superbirds sitting in his front yard unprotected from the elements and would not part with them. Long story short, he did end up selling them but not until a few years ago and by that time they had pretty much rusted down to a vin tag. I have no idea what he got for them but I cannot understand why people do that.
I know another guy right now that has a 70 roadrunner convertible 383 4 speed air grabber car that hasn't seen the light of day for 20 years. I made him a reasonable offer on it last year and he came back with "I don't know where I would find another one if I sell" From my perspective, what difference does it make? You're not doing anything with the one you have. To each their own, it's their car and they can do whatever they want with them but I just don't get it

I think alot of people feel like they have something to talk about with their buddies if they "own one". Even if that means its a pile with a VIN tag and no chance of redoing it. They somehow feel cool or part of the club if they have one yet won't do anything with it. I know so many people who start saying yea I have a such and such but when you find out what they have, its a rotted pile that's been sitting that way since '82 in their barn or backyard. People do that **** with everything, but it seems to be alot more prevalent in car ownership. Guy I used to work with always lives in the past that way......"Yea I used to have mustangs blah blah blah" then come to find out they were six cylinder bargain rides. Yea dude everyone had those, they were the ford tempo of 65 man! They were the only cars offered you could buy so no **** haha!

In my experience, don't tell them what they need to do and why.
Talk to them, listen, learn something.

Spend some time there without talk of money or time.

I wouldn't sell my memories, the possibility to restore that moment in time, my hopes and dreams, to anyone telling me what to do and that I have to abide by some time frame set by others.

Show them you share the same sickness, and profit is not your motive.

I’ve heard many stories like the above. Just don’t get it either. Makes absolutely no sense. A pile of rotting rust and metal is just that and soon will be nothing more. Why when someone else can make something out to it. Don’t know......

The problem is I have seen a guy throw 30 grand on the hood of the cuda. He turned it down. Hell i even offered to restore the old racecar that my dad built. All I ask was to be given the opportunity to buy it when something happened to him. as letting his son and daughter know that. That's the only car I know that still exist that my dad built and drove.

I have known this guy for 40 years. I even sold him the 69 road runner that I destroyed trying to knock down a bridge. LOL He will not get rid of anything. I was shocked when he gave me a tag bracket and a wheel hub. The sad part is even the good parts laying in the weeds like 3rd members posi traction, disk brake stuff has all ruined. But it is his to do what he wants. but its sad

All too sad. Some people have a weird sense of value for sure. On one side I understand to a point but on the other hand it's a shame to let serviceable OE parts that can be repurposed just melt away... crying shame.

I found a picture of the car

I shared this story once before. My brothers both have cars, motorcycles that just sit.For the last 40+ years never move. Lucky oldest brother keeps his inside. Middle brother had some inside and some out. Middle brother was one that did the "Someday". Well he died and I got his Hemi 65 Belvedere, but sold off the others for next to nothing because of their state of dis-repair.His most cherished was his '70 LS6 Chevelle that was last started and registered in 1976."Someday" he was going to bring it back out. Here are photos when we drug it out of the garage.Sitting that long it needed a complete restoration. It only had 1600 miles on it and was a day 2 car.Cragars, headers, scatershield, intake, carb and the like. The last photo was in it's hayday.

Moral of the story is "Someday" may never come.

I know to many people like this. Never fixes or finishes anything but will never sell them
A guy that lives about 5 miles from me is like this. Has 2 68 Chargers 69 Superbee 65 Fury 3. 69 Coronet that has a Daytona wing on the rear of it. Several 69-70 Gto's. Every time I talk to him oh I'm going to finish that car one day.

Neighbor has a Dodge pickup truck rusting away that I've offered to buy several times now . . .

It's still sitting out there rusting away . . .
