Good Day all,

Looking for all you experts to peek around under the hood...let me know what you may see that would not be factory correct for a 68 Charger RT.

68Engine.jpg

*Heater hoses are too long
*Heater hose bracket should be plated, not turquoise
*The heater hose bracket at valve cover is too short, HP manifold takes a long one to raise up hoses away from raised exhaust manifold.
*Upper rad hose wrong shape and too long
*Hose clamps wrong, should be Corbin clamps
*Alt pulley should be black, not gold plated
*Bolt on positive battery terminal end
*Missing spark plug wire holder at water neck
*wrong water neck, that is early mid 70’s type
*missing spark plug wire holder at front exhaust stud, all should be turquoise there
*Valve cover hardware should all be turquoise, painted after assembly- same with the tabs on the VC gaskets.
*Coil bracket bolts should be natural, not turquoise
*Wrong plastic holders for vacuum headlight wiring. Should be taped on the lines and push into the holes in body, shouldn’t be able to easily see the white plastic.
*Painted gray exhaust manifolds are wrong and look horrible to me. They should be bare iron with some turquoise overspray and then turn rusty with time away from the assembly plant. This will depend on the season and the weather where the car is delivered.

The air cleaner depends on where the car was sold new.
Yes battery is wrong, everyone knows that.
Overall it looks really good, just getting really picky because you asked.

Plenty correct about it, nice car!

Awesome guys....I knew about all of it except for coil bracket bolts and the short hose bracket. And yes R413...I wanted you to be picky...I appreciate that.

I thought all R/T's had Hp engines if so engine color should be orange.

isn't the dual snorkle a 67 thing? my 68 GTX has the big unsilenced version.... pretty much that one without the snorks

I agree with most everything @R413 said. My thoughts are that most Dodges in 68 got the round unsilenented air cleaner and that the long heater hose clip was for A/C cars. Also @black64 said Street Hemi Orange, but I think turquoise is correct. I would replace the positive battery cable and go with the Corbin clamps, then call it a day unless you are going for concourse judging. Then you would need a correct battery and fix everything else @R413 said.

Either it’s the picture but what’s with the paint around the wiper motor?

The voltage regulator is aftermarket and not correct....

The whole alternator is not correct...

All hoses are reproductions with no stampings...

because someone made a bogus chart? 67 68 R/T GTX base engine is 440 HP..... 375 horse and turquois

Got it, two charts one says orange for 69 the other says 68. the chart for 68 is wrong.

That dual snorkle air cleaner is not a 67. Wrong indent and breather fitting. As for what air cleaner the car came with, it is anyones guess. There are three choices that I know about.

I just looked on Nicks site. That may very well be a 383/440 air cleaner.

1968-69 440 T-N-T 4-Barrel and 383 HP for Chryslers. These are similar to others except have longer snorkels.

Photos below are from a survivor '68 Newport with 383 HP engine owned by Rich Rigby.

California cars got the duel snorkel air cleaner. The state didn’t like the unsilenced air cleaners for some reason.

Radiator cap looks like the one that is sold on e-bay...too large a diameter versus ears and missing the brass in the center

That chart is one of the most incorrect and therefore worthless pieces of information ever posted on the internet. It causes more problems than anything else. I wish there was a way to scrub it out of existence.

For all that is good and decent, please, everyone, stop quoting or sharing it...

Ok . Off my soap box.
