Question is with a 68 Charger R/T without a fender tag or build sheet can it be said that it is definitely an R/T by the vin? Is the value of the car really hurt by not having those two items. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Look at the VIN. Non R/T's start with XP, RT's start with XS.

If the vin number starts with XS29 (the tag on the dash) then it's the real deal. The 68 fender tags only show what options your car was born with along with the shipping sequence number down in the lower right hand corner. The vin number is the most important above all the nomenclature that the car was shipped with. You can have the fender tag remanufactured as well as the build sheet, but it's against the law as far as I know to remanufacture the vin tag. In order to recreate the fender tag you will have to do some detective work on your car, identifying the components that are with the car etc. Can be time consuming for sure.. good luck with your Charger

Just wondering if you guys were restoring a 1968 R/T and didn't have a numbers matching block would you use any 68 or any other bolck or spend $2000 more and buy a 1969 XS R/T H P block. Thanks for any thoughts.

depends on what your goona build, restomod no. factory correct or close too, yes.

Do you guys know if a 1968 charger rt could have come with the hood pins as an option?

The 5th digit on either a 68 or 69 Charger R/T should either be....

L for 440 4 barrel
J for 426 Hemi

I would think a date coded block would be fine even if its not from a Charger. Maybe you can get an idea of when it was built if someone has a vin close to yours. Why pay crazy money....it will never be numbers matching!
