I was in need of a pitman arm for my 69 Bee. Wanted to order a 16:1 manual steering box from PST for my Duster also, so I looked at their arms. The picture on their site looked like it had quite a bend in it compared to my original. So I pm'd James to see if he could tell me anything. After waiting a week with no response (even though he responded to others in threads) I called and talked to someone else at PST. He told me their parts are all OEM replacements and some of the pictures aren't a representation of the product sold. So I ordered it and this is what showed up. Just like in the pic of their site. My question is, have any of you used this PIT18452 arm with a big block in a B body and headers with no interference?

Not PST - I bought mine from Summit. Worked fine - no interference.

yah.. same oddball I got, but if you put one over top of the other the input and output line up exactly. Not sure where they are getting that crazy shape.. .as the CTC replacement in my Bee was "straight" and so is the OE in the Bird.

Seems to work fine.. but you know I don't do headers, that's the wife's job!

Looks like their Quick Ratio pitman arm.

James is a standup guy. Can't imagine why he hasnt answered you, but I am sure he will provide an explanation for you and replace the part if necessary.

Each time I see an Idler or Pitman with a weird curve like that, I wonder what the actual purpose for that might be. It would be easier to make it straight, right? There must be an engineering advantage to the curve, right?

Yeah, I don't get it either. You are already paying to have a mold made, why not have it built like the original - which worked just fine for how many years? Kind of frustrating since I took the time to call PST about it in the first place.

Man, it may be an optical illusion but from the pic, it looks like the new arm is large spline and the old one is smaller. Are they the same? I think starting in 71, the spline diameter changed

I thought the same thing when they were sitting side by side, but they are both 1 1/8".

10.4. I had an issue with that, someone at some point swapped a later steering box into my 69 before I got it. I didn't know it and bought the 69 arm. Well, that's when I found out.....as always, the hard way

I am sorry that I missed an email from you. I do not allows get a notification when one is sent through the site for both pm's and responses to posts. As mentioned by a poster above the pitman is correct and will work. As long as the start and end point line up distance wise to your original it will work. The slight variation in curve will not affect its operation.

Again I apologize for not responding.

Thanks

65 satellite looked funny to me to but works fine with my headers

So I have to ask. Why do yours have the bend cast into them and not straighter like originals?

The best way to answer this is. It is simply an aftermarket design. Instead of having 5 or more different pitman arms/part #'s with different bends but ultimately the same start and end point. The design we offer encompasses all the various part numbers in one pitman arm that will fit and function in the place of them with no issues, negative affects or clearance issues.
