Looking for input on which brand to go with to best match the factory gray and white spatter paint in my 64 Polara trunk. Mine is in pretty good condition so it’s not a complete restoration. Would love to get away with a thorough touch up. Main thing is which one matches best. Any tips are welcome!

I did mine with Duplicolor. Happy with the results.Looks OE

Did you completely redo the trunk or just touch up? You are the second guy that has said the duplicolor matched up to the factory really well. Any pictures?

I did the whole trunk. Sorry no pictures as of now but I'll try to get some this weekend.

Not a very good pic. Mine was covered in primer/paint over spray so I did a complete re-spray. One word of caution. Cover everything! And turn all fans off. The over spray is a killer!
Oh yeah, one can doesn't go very far and the factory seam sealer will bleed through.

is the spatter paint oer or was it painted. mine looks like paint not spatter. i also have a 64 440 maybe depends on model

I used OER turqouise paint, no good, way too light IMO. ended up redoing with mopar turqouise.

Another question. Maybe I’ll start a new thread. I’m trying to do a little prep, and I’ve noticed a bit of the “rubberized” base of the trunk floor is soft/peeling up, especially around the area where the filler neck meets the floor. I don’t want to peel it up and make a bigger job of this. Any suggestions on what to use to fill the 3/8” thick voids?
I swear I’ll post pictures tomorrow.
So far leaning on doing a test spray of the duplicolor since oer seems to get mediocre reviews and costs more.

p 500, tough call is it lifting from old age or from gas. if it is old age clean up the area and spray it in. if it gas it may not stick for long. also remember color differance between splatter paint.

Here’s where it’s peeling...not even sure what that rubbery material is or what I can use to build it back up before using spatter paint

Some more pics of trunk. It’s in really good shape. Minor surface rust that will come up with wire wheel. Cool that the jack is still in there.

Guessing it’s best to just mask the black seam sealer when I paint since the paint will just peel off of it anyway. Seam sealer is so clean I’m guessing they applied it after the spatter paint at the factory.

I think your right seam sealer after the spray.to build it up in layer or just clean up were the chips are and paint that area. Just a thought

Still have the jack good for you. Not many have that left. Keep up the good work.

Finally got some time to work on the trunk this weekend. Was going to be a quick cleanup, scuff, wipe down and paint. A full day of prep later and I finally got to get some paint on it Sunday morning.

One thing that was not planned was removing most of the black tar looking seam sealer. Sprayed purple super clean degreaser on it to wipe it down, and five minutes later it was all lifting up. Ened up being a blessing because the 3M seam sealer layed down much smoother.

If you scroll up, you can see the trunk before any work. These pictures here are some of the prep and the paint I got on the wheel wells and tail light panel. Ended up going with Duplicolor black and gray spatterpaint. Had bought 10 cans of the gray and white, but I didn’t like the lack of spatter in it. Black and gray looked cleaner.

Nice work you did there. Now that your a pro bring yourself out to PHX and show me how it's done. Just kidding but very nice work.

did you spray a primer first

Light scuff with red scotch brite. Vacuum. Wipe down with wax and grease remover. As I mentioned, I used royal purple degreaser near the tail panel to initially clean but that ended up lifting out the old black seam sealer. So I used it around the wheel humps too and resealed with 3M seam sealer. It lays down smooth but you only have about 2 minutes to work with it before it tacks up.

I only spot primed a few trunk pan areas that I had hit with the wire wheel to remove surface rust. My trunk is in pretty nice shape. I did mask off the car to the windshield with painters plastic because the paint is very fine. Blankets or sheets would work...was just trying to keep from having to wipe up overspray. One more wipe down and we sprayed. Definitely going to go through some cans. I’m 5 in and bet I need 5 more to get the inner fenders and trunk pan where I want them. Hope this helps!
