I'll be using a cut off wheel and I know that tape should be used at the cut. Question is, what tape is best and should the tape be cut on the mark or just cut in front of it.....?

Cut on the mark if you've given yourself an eight or sixteenth on your measure.
If you have green painters tape use that. Electrical tape works as well but I've found the adhesive to be a bit strong.
 
I just had to redo my fuel system, and had to re-learn how to do that . What worked for me was a TIGHT wrap of vinyl electrical tape, at least three times around, a thin cutoff wheel (1/32) , wrap the tape over your mark, and cut through the tape. I even tried to leave the tape in place has i inserted the line in the fitting, as it would peal off as it was inserted.
Im sure there are better ways, techniques and tools, but thats how i did it.
Edit: thats what i did with braided rubber line. I have come to the point that i like to use teflon line, and i let the local line specialist assemble for me, i dont have tools or technique for teflon.
 
The thinnest wheel I can find in my box of junk is .050 and that looks pretty thin lol
 
I just used electrical tape cut it right in the middle with a small cut off wheel nice and slow worked for my braided throttle cable.
 
I use masking tape. Use to use a cut off wheel. Now I use actual hose cutters. Bolt cutters work also.
 
1-1/2 wraps of masking tape and these cutters, cut through the tape............

You don't even have to remove the masking tape before installing the fitting.

A cut off wheel will leave residue in the hose that you must clean out. But clean the hose inside anyway before using it.
 
I use a Dremel with the thinnest cutoff wheel they make. and a good quality electrical tape. cut thru the tape

Exactly how I did it this last go round. I have used painters tape but didn’t have any.
 
Nylon reinforced packing tape wrapped tight, Dremel tool and the cut mark in the middle of the tape.

For the smaller sizes I use a pair of cutters from Summit.

The larger sizes I like a low tack tape such as 3M Blue and clamp one end of the hose so I can keep tension on it and use a cutoff wheel with the mark in the middle of the tape. With stainless the trick is "not" to unravel the wire braid. The other toy (1968 drag-boat with a Mopar) has all stainless AN hose. It was worth the effort.

What I'm cutting is a Lokar kickdown cable that's 1/4" diameter.....might just test a pair of shrub nips lol
 
I use a tight wrap of quality electrical tape and a 4 1/2" cut off wheel from HF (very thin). But, I got so sick of working with SS braided I went to Fragola series 8000 nylon braid and push locks, have used them on 2 cars (fuel system) and about to use it on my 70 Hemi RR. A little bit of a bitch to put together until you get the hang of it but way better than SS braid.

Use a very thin cut-off wheel....make sure you remove the cable before cutting :lol:

Tape up using electrical tape as said above, and check for frayed ends. Slide the cup end over before removing the tape....help to keep the strands together. :thumbsup:
