How you know when you are old.....

Chiropractor and medical doctor say acupuncture is not the answer. I am in the same shape with 1 year and 8 months to semi retirement. Chiropractor says I will make it. Medical doctor gives me what he can for the arthritis. There are nights were standing up straight is a chore and arms and hands hurt like hell. Just never give up.
Yep. Getting old ain't for the weak! I formed up a small slab (3'x8') to mount a cube storage feeder. What used to take me 4-5 hours took me two days. And four days to recover. I think that's my last concrete job.

When you sit around with your friends and talk about your ailments, just like your parents used to do with their friends when you were a kid.

2009 I was still crawling through attics in July in south Louisiana, telling younger guys "you don't look so good, better get some air so I don't have to call 911"
2011 lower back started demanding attention. Now I hurt bad just about all the time. Knees, shoulder...
I'm concerned about my future. I have a neurologist surgeon I'm going to see though, and weigh my options. May try a chiropractor and accupuncture.
Gotta find a solution, because I am the "one man" of my one man small business, and can't miss work.
Try to find a Chiro that employs the Graston Method. I have a couple,of friends that have discovered this technique and swear by it. They say it’s a miracle what they’ve accomplished with Chiros that are certified in that method. Doesn’t hurt to give it a run. I’m looking for a local guy that does it as well for my neck and shoulder.

If soft tissue and muscles were the problem this may work. Will do nothing for degenerative or blown disk and arthritis. There is only so much abuse joints will take.

Take my advice and get yourself hypnotized to LIKE pain! You will save a lot of money on doctors and prescriptions and life will be good again! LOL:D

I think you fellas have it about all covered in the physical ailment department (I'm right with you with destroyed discs
causing pinched nerves causing arm & leg FIRE). I don't think it's necessarily an age thing with my particular
experiences with flatlining and cancer 4x and all that, though - those apparently happen to all ages, sadly.
I'm just missing a few parts and some others have been "remapped". :)

I still have the pressure cooker job of having to fetch the work, line up the help, etc. that comes with the territory
and it's actually easier on me (and probably better for me physically) to then just go do the actual work myself, even
though the owners try to stop that every chance they get, too (they think that helps me...).
Bottom line is the younger help are like herding cats and I wind up going out behind them and mopping up their
messes anyways.

All that aside, and the heck with the 1am-3am wake-ups every morning (haven't needed an alarm clock in years),
bottom line is I've just gotten up one more time than I fell down.
Yes, I get a kick out of peoples' reactions, too. Example:
Recent fire pump testing I arranged with a rep from the manufacturer for a customer, I surprise-attended as well.
Owner of the facility/customer looked shocked to see me and said "hey, you showed up!"
His main facilities guy, who has known me for decades, says "Ed ALWAYS shows up."
Owner looks at me and I'm like:

You start looking at the obit's to see if you know anyone listed.

When your told, no more horse-play with the grandkids. Happened yesterday, like every time. Back of hands, top of forearms, several bruises that looks like I lost against a ball peen hammer!
Few times I touch anything, and don't get bruised.

Dean Martin said he felt sorry for people who didn't drink...something like when they get up in the morning that's as good as they're gonna feel all day.
And on another note: The best medications are like the best tasting food, bad for you..

When you see the things you like now are "vintage" and the music you like is today's "oldies " that happened to me yesterday, also when you ask a young fellow about a tv show and he never hear from it

Yeah we have aliments, but we're still here, and I don't bitch about the way I feel to anyone when they ask how are you. My standard answer is "I'm well, how the hell are you doing." I'll be 70 this year , and I'm happy with my granddaughters, daughter, wife (usually) and cars. I have lost many friends, so I find something or someone to enjoy everyday because no one is promised tomorrow. Don't let it get you down. Yep we're getting old, don't know about you, but for me it's been a great roller coaster ride :) and I'm not done. Come on, many of us here are in our 60's and 70's, and look at what we drive, life is pretty damn good.

you know we are old when the cars/trucks from the 80-s are now running around with Vintage and Historical tags on Them!!

When you spent too much time on a forum bullshitting with other old farts rather than doing something constructive.
