Good Day All,

I have a dual snorkel on my 68 Charger RT. The drivers side snorkel is rubbing slightly on the hood underneath. Original 440 engine, original Carter carb.

Air cleaner looks level from the eye. Is there an easy way to adjust the angle of the snorkel to bring the drivers side down slightly?

Thanks

maybe the motor mount could be worn ? if the engine is level [ put a straight edge level on air cleaner ] this will help to determine if the mount is worn so when you accelerate the engine moves up to rub ?

I had a motor mount that was broken years ago. The air cleaner rubbed the underside of the hood because of it.

Ok..that sounds like a good place to start...what is the easiest way to tell is a motor mount is broken?

If you have an automatic transmission, put it in reverse with the brake on and press on the accelerator a little, if the engine tries to climb out/up you have a problem motor mount.

yes...original intake.

And Auto transmission...I will try your procedure Dibbons. Thanks.

wouldn't in reverse check the right ? in drive would check the left driver side ?

oh...and it is only the very outer edge/lip of the drivers side snorkel that is touching/rubbing...not the round plate portion at all.

i have always put it in drive to check the driver [ left ] motor mount and reverse for the right motor mount.

Like “Vance “ says, and at least 1/2,throttle too. Have 2nd person watching by the hood.

So not a broken engine mount.

The air filter in there is a FRAM CA127. The described height of this filter is 3.516 inches.

The top of air cleaner of my dual snorkel with the filter in there does not bottom out in the base plate. Close. But not quite. If I take the filter out and just install the top of the air cleaner dual snorkel...zero issues even under engine load. It does not strike at all.

A filter that was 3.25 inches in height would work perfect. Any suggestions here?

Or would you suggest a very minor height drop base. It is the original carter carb...that works/runs great!

I'm not that familiar with Mopar engine mounts so this may not be very helpful. Have you put a level across the radiator support and then across the top of the air cleaner and compared them to see if the engine is sitting level in the car. I only mention this as I have a Cobra replica and Ford motor mounts allow a lot of leeway in shifting the engine from side to side and they have to be carefully shifted and leveled to the car before tightening them up. Probably not an issue with Mopars.
