72 satellite sebring plus.. car sat for about 10 months, getting back on the road now, but the dome light wont shut off. worked fine before. Am I correct in thinking only 3 points to check ? headlight switch, and push buttons on each door.. correct ?

the key buzzer goes off when drivers door is open, so that switch seams ok..

any thoughts

checked that, rotated left and right several times ( on/off)

thinks dust somewhere on one of the switches

so, I am correct that these should be the only 3 points that control the dome lamp, since the key buzzer works when drivers door is open and goes off when door is closed, leaning towards the passenger door

Just sit inside the car with the passenger door open & push the door light button in to see if the light goes off. It could be just an adjustment issue. Otherwise, you are looking in all the right places. It's rare, but you could also have a hot wire crossed into the dome light circuit too.

I remember my map light would only work when I occasionally hit a pot hole. Otherwise no go. Electrical stuff is confusing....,

yea i tried that, next step, pull the kick panels and unplug switches

Thread them out connected (the guts will spin.. you may have to help by holding the "plunger" while undoing switch).. you'll never get the wire back on with them installed. Chances are it's the drivers side.. as it's used the most. Once the switch is out of the hole the light should go out if it's bad.

would the key in ignition buzzer still work correctly if the drivers door switch was bad ?

Probably not as I believe they are just T'd on the back of the switch.. so try the passenger side first..

first I'd try the open door pushing in the plungers manually, then the dimmer disconnect and last resort the dome light - lug is finding a ground to chassis. Have you been removing or installing any trim screws? I know when I put my dually back together the rear cab light wouldnt work found out I pierced the wire when putting on the sill plates!

I think that is the two pronged door switch? New switch is only $2.63

The dome light is always hot, it just grounds through the door or light switch.
Check the door switches first, and make sure the switch connector did not fall off and is touching a ground.

I havent done any interior work, pulled the engine 9-10 months ago, dropping in the new one now, dome light worked fine before sitting, been on a tow truck ( rollback) a couple of times, that might have jarred something?

just thought about this, the only electrical work done was to install an new turn signal cam in the steering column... there wouldnt be anything there that would have any bearing on dome lights is there ??

just thought of this, could the map light under the dash be a contributor also ??

It seems like a long shot, but never say never. Does the map light switch on/off with the door? Headlight dome light switch? The map light switch provides a ground to the map light either through the door switch or a body ground. 4 screws to remove the map light panel so you can unplug and test.
If that doesn't fix the issue, you have to trace the ground (yellow wire) to the dome light. When you pull the kick panel, unplug the dome light plug and test for ground on the dome light side of the plug to verify no short there.
From there I would pull the plug off the door switch. Do you have the 3 wire switch? you can check each of these individually to narrow down the culprit.
one goes to the P/S door switch
one goes to the headlight switch/and dome light
one goes to the headlight on buzzer

If you don't have the wiring diagrams, get them from mymopar.com. Good luck!

i unplugged the door switches, no change, the map light used to come on, but the switch went bad.. I wonder....

That one would be easy to check, take out the map light panel and unplug it. The next thing I would check is to see if the dome light wiring itself got pinched and shorted out by checking the plug. After that is when it gets to be a PITA tracing circuits.

The wife and I are heading to Orlando this weekend and hitting Old Town for the show tomorrow night. Any chance you'll be out there? That's a sweet ride, and there are never enough old Mopars there!

man, I wish I could, but, cant make it
