1962 Dodge rear frame crosstie

Has anyone else had any damage on the rear cross tie? I was doing trunk pan repair when I discovered this and yes it goes into the trunk extension also.

Bit of cutting, trunk extension repair, bending of 16 gauge metal, light off the welding torch and I got it repaired....same thing but to a lesser degree on the passenger side, smaller repair chunk went in on that side..

Been scraping lots of the undercoating off these panels so to treat for surface rust....

Yup, cutting a good section out of a parts car.
Wondering if the trunk extensions are separate pieces from the trunk floor, and if available new.
Haven't had a chance to look them up.

Also, it would be nice if one could buy the center of the trunk floor, instead of the entire piece.

Matthon, one can buy this chunk...it is a heavy enough piece of metal but the beads are not greatly defined. I would think with a bead roller you could go over their light depressions for a better look but with the full perimeter weld and welding to the cross brace that is below this section, this panel serves it purpose very well. I have included a pic of this panel I have welded in this car. I did not have any rust or damage about the spare tire stand so my install was to cut the new panel and fit accordingly. As you can see I still have a couple of repairs to complete but we getting there. The frame cross tie I have also completed on both side now. The jig holes are also identified on this panel if you so wish to drill them. I also made my own cross tie sections out of 16 gauge cold rolled steel. The edges on this frame piece has rolled bends and thus any metal you bend at home comes out to the right curve...I predrilled the spot weld holes where it connects to the spring hanger rail and frame rail. Cutting a section out of another car may prove to find it also question integrity as they rust from the inside...

watch the prices on these as they do flux a bit...…the front section does roll up and curved as normally in this area the rust is a bit higher in this section of the pan

this company also makes trunk extensions...they are listed for the Plymouth...rear section is not quite as the Dodge...but still something you can easily tweak...depends on if you want originality or solid car to play with..

I took a look at that sunken section of my trunk floor again and there is surface rust but only 2 holes, right rear and left front.

I can't believe that piece exists new.

Fortunately my parts car seems to be in good shape in most of the places my car is not. I need to cut out what I can by 7/1 per the town and get rid of it.
It's a shame, but I don't think I'll be able to save much more of the metal than the sections I need.

It took a while to drill out all these spotwelds the last two nights, not difficult though.
