CNC Motorsports has a
KB215-030 piston set for $383.00
KB251-030 piston set for $277.00

I'm going to have to mill the quench dome off of either one for use with closed chamber heads. Has anyone milled a KB251 to completely remove the quench dome? Is there the same amount of material under this area on both style pistons?

I would call KB and ask them. After milling, the material thickness might not be thick enough.
only way to tell unless you could measure them.

the KB catalog I have says the domes can be milled off for closed chambers.

My mechanic friend had a 360 with all the machine work done he sold it to me with a set of iicr kb 191 with the quench dome, so before i new it ( and not thinking ahead ) i had bought the closed chamber eddy s so since i have my own machine shop i decided to mill em down, now there kb 107 flat tops. I set up my mill with a positive stop so i would mill the exact amount on every piston . I must have done ok even though i havent run the motor yet , because i weighed each one after and was within 1/4 gram or less and at 0 deck with every one, Sorry not sure if that helps you 727 just my 2 cents

I called KB and the guy on the tech line said I should be good with taking it all the way down. He couldn’t be 100% certain but said he thought it wasn’t hallowed out underneath the dome. Thanks for all of your input!
I’m not sure why the same piston with the higher dome is over $100 cheaper per set.

I just looked up that piston on the uem site and theres a note next to the description about machining the dome if your using close chambers

I did on my 40 over 440 ,gave me a zero deck piston, felpro blue gasket and Indy ez max wedge head, lot of sweeeeze for street, but holding up great

I mill the quench dome off the KB 215 I use Performer rpm heads, quench is .035
My engine is 451 with 11.5 c.r. no problems...
Deck Height .007 to .019.JPG

.035" quench is the minimum practical to run without engine damage.
quench is like mechanical octane...
