Accidently Found My Parents 1971 Special Order Road Runner!

Pretty much sums up high school for me too........trouble trouble...no computers no cell phones just good old fashioned shenanigans!

Congrats on the find...definitely a very lucky result.

If it were me, and the attachment was quite strong...I would be looking at a swap with your current car...plus a cash difference to help things along. Maybe that's not right for you, but worth looking into. :)

Right, all kinds of ideas are going through my head. He just told me he has another '71 Road Runner, red & black.

I would visit him again, with photos if possible, and a story about a good experience in it. While talking cars, I would ask: If you didn't have this one, is this car exactly what you would want?
If he didn't say: "This is the exact year, model, and option, car I want", your door is open and I would propose that I would find a car, just like this one, or better. Even then, they are one of so many, so nearly identical cars are out there.
He is at a stage where he can work with most any car and if you put in the time on the internet scouring CL, you'll find a replacement car.

You need to put up a picture of when your parents got it brand new to compare to how it now looks. :)

My parents were not much into photography, don't ever remember seeing a foto of the vehicle at home. Here is a similar vehicle found on the internet (but our California car did not have exhaust tips):

How awesome, maybe one day they will sell it to you.

It was great growing up with a Mopar muscle car as the family car. My parents bought this 70 Charger R/T SE new.

Owner had been collecting parts for 5 or 6 years but has not begun restoration yet, saving it for his retirement project.
heard that phrase "a lot" before

but the car's usually out in the back 40 or on jack-stands for decades

cool find in any case

I remember drilling those holes in the front alignment access covers on a drill press back in a shed by the barn circa 1972-73. I thought it would help to "vent" hot underhood air.

Awesome ! Next step: buy it. Next step: sell me your current car cheap. :)
