redline

All good info, thanks everybody. I get it now, Rpm max doesn't change with stroking, rpm is determined by the sum of the parts. I'm going with 440 source kit. 4 bolt main option, the whole kit is balanced and has optimized bob weight. All USA made parts.

IMHO, the stroker will make more torque & power lower in RPM. Needs heads to support increased flow & higher piston speed away from TDC. Valve train will almost always limit "effective" red line. I ran excessive RPM with my 440's & 452 low decks. Only engine failure was low deck, normally ran to 7200 RPM and had 2 piece #5 main cap when pulled with about 250 runs, still ran great. During that time, many, many broken valve springs & a few pushrods. Later a cut down 440 steel crank in another 452 low deck was fine after I forgot to shift to 2nd (727), long wheel stand, quick 8 race. Motor popping, 8400 RPM. Replaced broken valve springs & pushrods, next week found broken mushroom lifter & flat cam lobe. Valve train goes before bottom end in MOST cases. Your stock style valve train is good to 5500 at best.
