An assembly date on the pad and a never used block doesn't calculate for me either. Could it be both 3's or both 5's on those dates.

Ok Uploaded pics I will have to

We looked at the side of block , Then we noticed on the bottom of pain second date Not sure what this is there???

Read your own message again. The engine is stamped 3 - 23 - 65.. not 3-25-64 !
Paint "inside" the block seems like a recipe for disaster...

Cast Date 5 * 4 * 64 Day shift about noon.
Stamped Date 3* 26 * 65
This is what I see in the pictures supplied, but no picture of the pad.
If the pad is not stamped it could be a NOS block as stated.
I have seen this coating on a Hemi block before. I'm not sure this was a factory coating. I will try to get up with the person that owns the block I saw it on and ask if he did it or when he tore it down if it was already like that.

Not that it could not be an epoxy coating. The process has been around since the 1930s. It was just a pricey process do to the materials required even in the 1960s.

Still need to see the pad up by the distributor hole.............

That's VERY important!

Not Nos (see original "nos" post has been changed now)but a well stored re-machined block. You can clearly see the old head gasket imprint on the head surface. Also it looks like you can see where the coating was heated behind the timing chain area and changed color...

The lifter valley and crankcase is painted with red glyptal paint normally used for generator and motor windings was used for a time by racers to seal the pores of the block to encase any particles that may come loose and help with oil drain back

I think you are absolutely right! Glyptol... used it many times for armatures on dc generators. :icon_fU::lowdown:
